2.1b2 error after reboot
Hello, half an hour ago I suffered an unscheduled power outage, when my Linux (RH 7.3) rebooted, I had to correct an unlinked i-node in /tmp file system (apparently a .pid file).
The qrunner deamon did not start and reported this error: Jul 24 16:34:34 2002 mailmanctl(1040): Traceback (most recent call last): Jul 24 16:34:34 2002 mailmanctl(1040): File "/usr/local/mailman/bin/mailmanctl", line 501, in ? Jul 24 16:34:34 2002 mailmanctl(1040): main() Jul 24 16:34:34 2002 mailmanctl(1040): File "/usr/local/mailman/bin/mailmanctl", line 351, in main Jul 24 16:34:34 2002 mailmanctl(1040): lock = acquire_lock(force) Jul 24 16:34:34 2002 mailmanctl(1040): File "/usr/local/mailman/bin/mailmanctl", line 202, in acquire_lock Jul 24 16:34:34 2002 mailmanctl(1040): lock = acquire_lock_1(force) Jul 24 16:34:34 2002 mailmanctl(1040): File "/usr/local/mailman/bin/mailmanctl", line 196, in acquire_lock_1 Jul 24 16:34:34 2002 mailmanctl(1040): os.unlink(tempfile) Jul 24 16:34:34 2002 mailmanctl(1040): OSError : [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'master-qrunner.mail.hypertrek.info.25776'
Then I did a
# service mailman stop
and mailman logged this
Jul 24 16:35:27 2002 mailmanctl(1112): No child with pid: 25776 Jul 24 16:35:27 2002 mailmanctl(1112): [Errno 3] No such process Jul 24 16:35:27 2002 mailmanctl(1112): Stale pid file removed.
after that I did a
# service mailman start
and everything was Ok.
This could be a serious issue in case of unattended machines, is there a solution for this error?

Sounds like you don't have things set up to restart on reboot properly. Did you follow the installation directions to chkconfig --add the mailman script to the proper run levels?

Yes, this is the chiconfig status for mailman:
mailman 0:off 1:off 2:on 3:on 4:on 5:on 6:off
note that my system starts on runlevel 3

Hmm, I guess you need to check your logs for any errors that might be occuring during boot up. Restart works fine for me on RH7.3 (and 6.1).

The boot was not after a graceful shutdown, but after a power loss. Check my last message with the steps to replicate the error without rebooting.

Thanks Dale. I fixed this in a slightly different way, but I appreciate the patch submission.
Should be fixed in cvs now. -Barry

Thank you, guys.
In a few hours I will be leaving to London, I'll be back on Sunday and I will test the patch (hope my server does not crash in the meantime). Thanks!
