Hi everyone, My name is Ritwik and I would like to contribute to mailman project. I have worked with python on many personal projects and have a little bit of idea about Django. What would I like to work on?....I don't have a clue but would like to get better insight as I progress further. I'm using Ubuntu 18.04 LTS and am currently setting up the suite.
Thank You
Can anyone help me with what should I do/follow and also do I need to fork & setup the whole suite??
Thanks

Thank you for your interest in Mailman.
You could start by going to <https://gitlab.com/groups/mailman/-/issues>. Look for issues tagged easy or beginner friendly.
If you are interested in Mailman core, you probably only need to clone <https://gitlab.com/mailman/mailman.git>, but for Postorius and Hyperkitty you should get everything.
Even if you are interested in core only, it would be good to set up the entire suite in a development environment to get a feel for everything.

Hey Mark, So I was able to setup by following this guide --> https://docs.mailman3.org/en/latest/devsetup.html
Also, On the official mailman "group" on gitlab there were many more repos....do i need to set them up too? And do you have any place or email where I can dm/pm and ask you or any other person direct questions??
Thanks

No. All you need for a complete installation is covered in <https://docs.mailman3.org/en/latest/devsetup.html>.
The other things are either obsolete, experimental or not related to a full development installation.
And do you have any place or email where I can dm/pm and ask you or any other person direct questions??
There is a #mailman irc channel on freenode. See <https://www.list.org/devs.html> for some more info. Until a moment ago, this page mentioned Mailman bundler which is obsolete and didn't mention mailman-suite, but I have fixed that.
I personally give priority to list email over personal email except in cases where a list thread is becoming too arcane and is taken off-list. I.e., if you want to invite me out for a beer, dm/pm is fine, but if you have a question about Mailman, I prefer it be asked and answered on the list and in the archives.

Cool.
Also, can you explain how you came about this error --> https://gitlab.com/mailman/mailman/issues/553
Sure,I would love to take you out for a beer :)
Thanks
Hi Ritwik,
Thanks for your interest in the project! Please try to read the official document https://docs.mailman3.org/en/latest/ along with the docs of components (they are listed on the previous link).
You may install the Mailman Suite using Docker or pip, where you don't need to fork the repo. But if you want to contribute, you may need to fork and install.
Try to discover different features Mailman offers, and you may also read the issues in the GitLab https://gitlab.com/mailman to get some ideas.
Feel free to ask questions if you cannot find in the documentation :)
Yours truly, Xiaoxing Ye
