Set Ftp to Binary

Just musing... is there actually any benefit to EVER having ftp not set to binary? Why do we still have to fight this battle?

Transferring text files between systems with different formats for text files can cause corrupt files if the transfer mode isn't text. Transferring binary files between systems with different formats for text files causes corrupt files if the transfer mode is text.
