After doing a fresh re-install of mailman, the approval of posts seems to be working correctly again. I still don't know what went wrong in my upgrade progress that made it impossible to work... I'll try to find out what went wrong to see if other people can be warned about this... oh well, maybe it was time to restart with a clean config anyway... it's almost 3am... i need to get some sleep soon :)
