New command-line tool...
Folks,
A modified version of the "discard" tool has been created and
uploaded to <http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=992621&group_id=103&atid=300103>. I believe that this may be useful for other sites who run command-line-only mailing lists.
If there is sufficient interest in this tool and people think
that this is useful, I'll be glad to create an entry for it in the FAQ and to make an appropriate announcement on the mailman-users mailing list.
Either way, I'd be interested to hear any comments anyone may
have regarding this tool.
Thanks!

I don't have a new-enough mailman to judge this, and I don't see a link for the full version of it at SF. But it sounds similar to my bulk-vette script. If there's anything additional there, and anyone wants to make it work with a current Mailman, have at it.
We use this mostly when a list admin has been negligent of pending posts and he or a replacement admin wants the admindb cleared. Is that a parallel function?

You missed the download link at
<http://sourceforge.net/tracker/download.php?group_id=103&atid=300103&file_id=94197&aid=992621>?

I haven't heard of your bulk-vette script. Is it also on SourceForge?

This is a case where the admin of the list server is frequently
unable to log into the web interface to manage the mailing lists, partly due to some performance bugs in the older version of mailman he's using that have been addressed in more recent versions, and partly due to the size and configuration of the server relative to the number of subscribers and amount of traffic he's doing.
By using the command-line tool he's now hacked together, he can
get a lot of his list admin work done without hitting the web interface.
I'll point this one out to him.
Thanks!

I see a download link for a diff, but I can't tell from that whether it implements the same functions. Sorry for the confusion.

No, I've mostly been keeping to myself for the past couple of years; it seems nobody generally has much use anymore for someone still running 1.0. But it sounded like this might be useful to someone.

We have cases often enough where it would take measurable time to vette the admindb via the web -- anywhere from a couple of minutes to an hour or more, in some cases. Bulk-vette takes seconds. So the rationale is the same, even if the cause is different.
