I just upgraded a 1.0b4 --> 1.0b5...when I tried to run mmsitepass (didn't know if I needed to do this again since I was upgrading, but figured it would be better to be safe than sorry...)...and I got this:
[root@chimera bin]# mmsitepass snoop Traceback (innermost last): File "./mmsitepass", line 27, in ? from Mailman import MailList File "/home/mailman/Mailman/MailList.py", line 40, in ? from SecurityManager import SecurityManager File "/home/mailman/Mailman/SecurityManager.py", line 24, in ? import Crypt File "/home/mailman/Mailman/Crypt.py", line 19, in ? if mm_cfg.USE_CRYPT: AttributeError: USE_CRYPT [root@chimera bin]#
Then, when I tried to look at www2.acm.jhu.edu/mailman/listinfo, I got an internal server error, with this in /var/log/httpd/error_log:
[Wed Jul 29 09:27:04 1998] access to /home/mailman/cgi-bin/listinfo failed for 1 28.220.223.50, reason: Premature end of script headers
...and while I was writing this message, I postponed it to investigate something else...I'm now getting this message every 5 minutes from the Cron Daemon:
Traceback (innermost last): File "/home/mailman/cron/gate_news", line 22, in ? from Mailman import MailList File "/home/mailman/Mailman/MailList.py", line 40, in ? from SecurityManager import SecurityManager File "/home/mailman/Mailman/SecurityManager.py", line 24, in ? import Crypt File "/home/mailman/Mailman/Crypt.py", line 19, in ? if mm_cfg.USE_CRYPT: AttributeError: USE_CRYPT
I tried sending a test message to one of the lists I host..haven't seen it yet (10 minutes ago, so I'm assuming it's not coming).
BTW - Kudos to whoever added in the permissions checking in configure!

Oh, hmm. We really need to be tracking new variables in the config file. Just throw USE_CRYPT=1 into your mm_cfg.py.
Then, if you're interested, diff your old defaults with the one that comes w/ the b5 dist and let us know what else is missing.
