Japanese characters in Mailman archive

Hi all, I am new to this list and trying to use Mailman to administer a Japanese language ML. I have recently installed Mailman. Mailman no trouble with handling Japanese e-mail messages but archive files (html) do not display Japanese characters properly. The problem seems to do with the html conversion by Mailman. When Mailman encouters '>' it gets replaced with '>'. In the case of Japanese (multibyte) messages, this '>' is generally one byte of double-byte character (Japanese) and as a result the characters get messed up in html files. Archive files in the text format does not have this problem. I am not sure how this problem can be sorted out. Is there a way wherein the replacement of '>' by '>' can be avoided. Or is there a way to generate text files instead of html files. Thanks in advance. Venkatesh Raghavan Osaka City University Japan

I see in the CVS code that some unicode text has now been implemented, and I have heard mention that the idea is that the language will be selectable per member. Does this mean that the translation is only focussed on the built-in texts in mailman?? The texts that are in "template" are probably as critical (if not more so) as the built-in texts. I dont know if you have plans to change this, I would be willing to help. I suggest that either: 1: when a new list is generated with "newlist" all texts are copied from "template" into "lists/xxxxx". The list now only uses these versions, which can then be modified by the list administrator. 2: another possibility would be that mailman always searchs a list for its text files, first in "lists/xxxx", and then if it not there in "template". Where are the catalogs in CVS?

I have just done upgrading the Czech catalogs to the newest version. I have also downloaded the latest CVS version of mailman to test the translation, but Im not able to find the other catalogs and at least the place where the catalogs should be. IS the version in CVS ready or not? How translate catalog

hello, I have sent catalog to colaborators, and I have sent a message to mailman users so they can know that exist an effort to internationalize Mailman. I have sent catalog to translator, in the file there are lines like: msgid "original text found in sources of Mailman" yes, the ones marked in the first stage. and msgstr "translated text, corresponding to proper messages inside msgid" This means that: msgid lines MUST NOT be modified at all. Don't touch them. The only messages to be modified are 'msgstr' lines. In languages with accented characters, e.j. spanish, italian, french... translated text should be translated depending on intended output 1) web pages: ¿ñáéí... should be represented as ¿ ñ á eacute; iacute;... 2) electronic mail: ¿náéíóú... should be ¿ñáéíóú...
