Hi all, Michael Fang contributed a Big5 mailman.po file, which I've just checked into cvs. Thanks Michael! However, I've had trouble running it through msgfmt. See the errors below. I've just uploaded a "language pack" to SF which should be useful to those of you that cannot sync against CVS. Please see http://sourceforge.net/project/shownotes.php?release_id=45662 for details (but note that SF has a delay in making the file visible). This is a tarball containing the latest and greatest README-I18N.en, mailman.pot, templates/en/* and mailman.po for Spanish, French, and Japanese. I hope you guys find this useful, but please let me know if there's some way I can improve the process. Thanks! -Barry

Dutch translation

I'm creating a dutch translation of Mailman (as I already have a partly translated Mailman installation (2.0b2-based) to start with) but I ran into a couple of issues. Specifically, it took me a while to figure out how to translate :) It would be helpful if there was a README file in, say, messages/, explaining how to do it. I found helpful notes in the archives of this list, though. The other thing is that some messages need rewriting in the english in order for it to fit in Dutch; For instance, msgid "Creating archive directory " The extra space after the 'directory' suggests, to me, that Mailman will append the directory name. In Dutch, the best translation would be msgstr "Maak archief directory %(directory)s aan." but that won't work, the way it's done now... Should I deal (I can, in this case, but I'm not done translating, so it might end up being a real problem later on) or fix (by changing the english string) ? :) -- Thomas Wouters <thomas(a)xs4all.net> Hi! I encountered at least one other problem with a construction of a line: #: Mailman/HTMLFormatter.py:78 msgid "<em>(%(num_concealed)d private member%(plu)s not shown)</em>" msgstr "<em>(%(num_concealed)d privé lid/leden niet getoond)</em>" The dutch plural of member ('lid') is not created by adding an 's' (it's "leden".) In fact, it's generally not true that "s" makes the best plurals ("en" would be better, in Dutch, though that wouldn't fix it in this case.) State of translations?

I'm trying to figure out where the various translation efforts are at, which are ready to be integrated with Mailman's cvs, and which need more help to get to a usable level. I'd also like to keep track of "champions" for each language translation, so I know who is coordinating each effort. My goal is to get as many translations committed to the cvs tree as possible. At the moment, I think we've got very good Spanish support in the cvs tree, mostly due to Juan Carlos's patches and updates. These will be part of the MM2.1a2 release sometime today (hopefully). We've got some templates for French, Hungarian, and Big5, but I suspect that those three are fairly out of date. So let me ask the following: If you are heading up a translation effort, please send me your name, email address, and the language you are working on. Also, please tell me the status of the translation, and when you think it will be ready for integration in the cvs tree. If you maintain your own web pages for the translation effort, please give me the url. Also, if you have a list of folks that are help you out, please let me know that too. I plan to add a page to the web site that outlines this information, so that others willing to help know who to contact, and what the state of progress is. Thanks. I'm really psyched for MM2.1 final, whenever that's released, to have support for as many languages as possible, out of the box! You're help is greatly appreciated. -Barry

Archiving problem

Hi We are running Mailman at sindominio.net (Barry: you can add us to http://www.list.org/inthenews.html in you want to). We have an archiving problem, that python.org seems to have as well. If you go to http://mail.python.org/pipermail/mailman-i18n/2001-June/date.html you will see the June messages index, including this one: [Mailman-i18n] German translation available? =?iso-8859-1?Q?Wilfried_G=F6dert?= You see, it says "=?iso-8859-1?Q?Wilfried_G=F6dert?=" instead of "Wilfried Gödert". I think this would be solved modifying Defaults.py so that the iso-latin-1 characters are converted to html entities: DEFAULT_CHARSET = ['iso-8859-1'] VERBATIM_ENCODING = ['iso-8859-1'] (Please confirm this is the correct syntax, as we have to implement it). But what about if a site is running 2 lists, one in Spanish and other one in Japanese? Thanks, Quique
