We will probably need some general fallback to replace completely unknown charsets with some safe US-ASCII text. Do you think you could add this? Say, something like "(text with unknown encoding)".
For the index, this might be a good idea. For the article, I'd prefer if there are some traces left of the original subject. E.g. if it is quoted-printable, you can often guess the subject from only the ASCII parts in it - atleast for the Latin languages. OTOH, Mailman should IMO support all widely-used encodings out of the box; then this might not be an issue anymore. Regards, Martin
