hello, I have sent catalog to colaborators, and I have sent a message to mailman users so they can know that exist an effort to internationalize Mailman. I have sent catalog to translator, in the file there are lines like: msgid "original text found in sources of Mailman" yes, the ones marked in the first stage. and msgstr "translated text, corresponding to proper messages inside msgid" This means that: msgid lines MUST NOT be modified at all. Don't touch them. The only messages to be modified are 'msgstr' lines. In languages with accented characters, e.j. spanish, italian, french... translated text should be translated depending on intended output 1) web pages: ¿ñáéí... should be represented as ¿ ñ á eacute; iacute;... 2) electronic mail: ¿náéíóú... should be ¿ñáéíóú... NOTE: msgid lines can be multilines strings: e.j. and should be simulated like: # Intended to e-mail #: /home/mailman/Mailman/MailCommandHandler.py:444 msgid "" "Usage: info\n" "To get info for a particular list, send your request to\n" "the '-request' address for that list, or use the 'lists' command\n" "to get info for all the lists." msgstr "" "Sintaxis: info\n" "Para obtener información sobre una lista en particular, envíe su\n" "solicitud a la dirección '-request' de esa lista, o utilice la orden\n" "'lists' para obtener información de todas las listas." # Intended to web page #: /home/mailman/Mailman/MailList.py:529 msgid "Turn this on only if you plan on subscribing people manually and don't want them to know that you did so. This option is most useful for transparently migrating lists from some other mailing list manager to Mailman." msgstr "Activarlo solo si tiene previsto subscribir a gente manualmente y no quiere que ellos lo sepan. Esta opción es sobre todo útil para migrar de forma transparente listas de otros gestores de listas de distribución a Mailman" Cheers -- ___ / F \ [[[]]]] ( O O ) #----------------0000--(_)--0000---------------# | Juan Carlos Rey Anaya (jcrey@uma.es) | | Servicio Central de informática | | Universidad de Málaga - España | #----------------------------------------------# # Solo se que cada vez se menos :-| # #----------------------------------------------#

ok, but unfortunately there are several strings belonging to web and mail output at the same time. Example: #: /home/mailman/Mailman/Cgi/handle_opts.py:104 #: /home/mailman/Mailman/Cgi/handle_opts.py:252 #: /home/mailman/Mailman/MailCommandHandler.py:320 #: /home/mailman/Mailman/MailCommandHandler.py:399 #: /home/mailman/Mailman/MailCommandHandler.py:530 msgid "List is not functional." msgstr "La lista non è in funzione." I wonder if there is a way to separate things. -- Of course you can't flap your arms and fly to the moon. After a while you'd run out of air to push against.

Uhmm, I think there no way to separate because, at last, a binary form of catalog will be generated looking for msgid strings as primary key searches. A trick can be done inserting one space at the end of mail messages (by example), so when catalog get scanned, different strings will be found.
