New Asturian Internationalization for Mailman
Hi! I'm Marcos Costales, a member of Softastur (www.softastur.org). We're an asociation for translate open source :) We have translated some projects as Ubuntu, Fedora, GNOME, KDE, Xcfe, OpenOffice...
I would create an Asturian Internationalization (not exist yet) for MailMan. Our language code is: ISO 639-1 None ISO 639-2 ast ISO 639-3 ast Asturian in asturian is writed: "Asturianu".
Note: I have already signed a FSF disclaimer for The Translation Project.

PS: I read here: http://wiki.list.org/display/DEV/i18nhowto in "Where your translation lives": "...In /messages, there should be an /xx directory for each language supported, where xx is your ISO-639 language code..." Our language code has 3 letters (ast) :O Is this a problem? Maybe must I create a bug for this? Thanks.

I'm sorry that wiki registration is such a pain, but we've had serious issues with wiki spam and this is the only way we know to effectively control it.

I have a doubt, I saw in the source tar that the directory "messages" has 1355 phrases, but the directory "templates" isn't translated (only in english). Must I translate only the "messages" template? or the "templates" files too? ;) Thanks very much for your support and help! Best regards!

For the current, stable Mailman 2.1.x branch, the templates are separate from the message catalog and also need to be translated. I.e. you need to make a translation of the message catalog in messages/ast/LC_MESSAGES/mailman.po and you also need to make a full set of translated templates in templates/ast/*.
The Mailman 2.2 branch is now dead, but both it and the current development Mailman 3 branch have integrated the templates into the message catalog so all the translation is in that one place.
Presumably, you are looking at the MM 3 tar if you are only seeing templates/en/ and not other templates/* directories. In that case, templates are translated in the respective message catalog and translated templates are installed as needed in the templates/ directory based on the languages selected for installation.

I started with the translation of 2.1.12 version (templates & messages directory). I think in 1 week I will translated it! :)
And for the version 3, do you recommend me wait? (because is a trunk version) or start when I finished the version 2.1.12? One doubt more, please... If I translate the version 2.1.12, this translations will be released, by example 2.1.13?

All translations for mm3 will be done in Launchpad. I should finish that set up by the end of the week.

I suspect that there won't be as much overlap between Mailman 2 and 3 source strings as perhaps we'd like. I certainly don't want to force as much conservatism as we have between Mailman 2.1.x versions. We should have the freedom to improve our texts for MM3 without worrying too much about having to retranslate.

As I mentioned to Marcos off-line, I'm trying to finish up the migration to Launchpad. We'll have to work out new processes (e.g. getting FSF assignments before being added to the ~mailman-translators team), but I'd like to get this going.
I guess the big question is how much we can/should import of the existing translations. Probably not much as we've been too lax with copyright assignments.
