Something really wierd has happened here. On Friday, we received a message from one of the subscribers to our list that he had received a lengthy pornographic message from the list and requested that we not send him this kind of material. Coincidentally, our lists seem to have died on Friday. qmail is no longer running. Our sysadmin is not here. I have root access and I want to find out where the queued up messages live so I can grep for the porno material, remove it from the spool before I restart qmail... I cannot determine where to look. Many T's IA for any help. J.

No password

How to ignore confirmation requests in Mailman

One of my users sent me this: """I sent a mail to the mailing list. By default I use "send confirmation on". I forgot to turn off this flag as it's not processed by other mailers I use. Please check whether your mailing system (mailing list remailer) can ignore / reset the "send confirmation / read confirmation" markers. Currently I get feedback from most of the receipients which are configured into your system. That's neither secure nor is the bandwith spent useful.""" I looked at all of my list's admin pages, but I didn't see any options that looked appropriate. I really don't want users to be able to receive confirmation from other list users. The membership list is not public, but this sounds like an easy way for a user to get the list of subscribers. ---Tom

request: list url in error message, mail password

We are now in public beta using the list on campus (to replace majordomo) and I got these rather sensible requests from one of the testers.: >It would be nice if error messages from the software included the web >address for the list, but so far I've only seen that in the "help" file >that I requested. Suggestion: new features

Hello, I am the administrator of a list managed by Mailman, not the Mailman admin. I would like to suggest some new features that would be welcome on our list - purely from a user's view. First, we have a problem with national accented characters, since some people like to use them, while other people's machines do not support them. It would help a lot, if Mailman was able to strip the accents optionally. Second, it would be nice if Mailman was able to handle multi-list posts intelligently, so that people subscribed to several lists would only get one copy of the same message posted to all lists. This could be implemented as a separate list which automatically includes all the members of several given lists, but only once. I hope it will be possible to implement these features. Latest mailman not getting authorization cookies

OK - I'm stumped.... anyone out there care to enlighten me PLEASE? I have been running Mailman at our site for awhile now and recently upgraded to the latest "c" release. Other than a few quirks with permissions because I reloaded the old lists off tape, everything went well except for one user... She's on a Mac running Internet Explorer 4.5 for Mac and previous to this upgrade she had admin control of a couple of lists. All worked. After the upgrade, she can access the admin page, but every time she tries to actually ALTER anything and commit the change: a) she is asked for a password (again) b) eventually she is told that "authorization failed " and something about cookies. She tried clearing her cookies but that's not helping. I don't see anything obvious, and other users don't seem to have the problem. What is Mailman really trying to tell me?1 Logs don't say anything obvious. John Antypas Prosoft Engineering

Hi, I installed mailman-1.0rc2 recently. I created a list and put in the aliases. It told me a couple URLs to go to for setup, including to listinfo/test. When I try to load www.localgroup.org/mail/man/listinfo/test/, I get an Internal Server error. Debugging output from my webserver makes it appear as if the listinfo script isn't generating any output. There are no errors sent to syslog. If I run the listinfo script from the commandline as root, it gives me a GID permissions error. But if I run it as webadmin (which is what the webserver executes it as), it works fine (displays HTML output). Any ideas what's going on? My Apache scriptlog output is below. new list not advertised

Hi all. I am running rc1 and just noticed a strange problem. On the page generated at /mail/listinfo I see a bunch of old lists that I had around for a while. A new list, created under rc1, is not showing up on the list. I went to the privacy settings for that list and it does show up as being advertised -- just to make sure I turned it off and then on again -- so I am baffled as to why it is not showing up on the public list of lists. Any suggestions would be appreciated. As I missing a second setting that I have to tweak, or is this a bug? Thanks in advance, --chris
