Archiving Automatically

Earlier I had a problem where whenever I tried to access the "Downloadable version" version of my list's archive. (The xxx.txt.gz has permission 600) I managed to fix it via manually running $prefix/bin/arch <listname> archives/private/<list-name>.mbox/<list-name>.mbox Shouldn't the bin/arch function be run automatically for each of my list? My list works fine in all other aspect (fingers crossed) except for 'downloadable archive'. Did I miss a step elsewhere? 'Too many open files' in run_queue

OK I'm further investigating my run_queue problems. The reason it woudl just hang is there was a stale lock file. Restricting subscriptions

Is there a way to limit the users that can subscribe to lists based on domain name. I know you can have confirmations on or off, but can I have confirm off for *.eskom.co.za and confirm on for anybody else that attempts to subscribe to a list. The reason that I want this is that I have a machine with both private and public (internet) lists and I do not want Internet users being able to subscribe to our intrenal lists. Can I change a user's password for him?

A subscriber tells me that the password generated for him is not working as the "old password" entry in the change-password section, and indeed it doesn't work when I go to his config page and try it. He sent it to me in what looked like an excerpt from the message sent to him from the "Email my password to me" button. It also doesn't work for viewing the list's private archive as him. If this were his general login password, I would offer to change it for him. Is there something analogous I can do for his list subscriber password? For that matter, is it correct that, like system passwords, these are in one-way encryption? Or on the contrary, is there a way (as root or mailman) to go in and read it from a file, or maybe even alter it in a text file? Thanks, Mitch Marks P.S. As I'm currently a "digested member" of this list, I'd appreciate it if any responses were cc:ed to me directly (mitchell(a)cuip.uchicago.edu), instead of only to the list..

Compaq/DEC - True64 Problem

I all, Wonder if anyone out there is runing mailman on a DEC Personal Workstation 500AU. I have installed mailman and have a problem, hope someone can assist: It will receive mail and put it in the archive, but will not send it to others on the mailing list. The $prefix/mailman/logs/smtp-failures give the following: Jun 03 14:57:59 1999 TrySMTPDelivery: To ['jeffw(a)fatman.pro-libertate.com'] socket.error / host not found (deferred) This would be version 8 of sendmail, 4.0d of the DEC O/S, 1.0rc1 of mailman, I compiled it with the starndard DEC c compiler, and used Python 1.5.2. -jeffw

oddness - please help

Apparently totally out of the blue, our installation stopped working. There are only 2 of us with root, and neither of us have touched anything. All of sudden, mail sent to any of the lists disappears into a black hole, and any attempts to access a mailman-generated page returns Internal Server Error (500). I thought maybe whatever it is might clear up by just doing an upgrade from b11 --> rc1...but even that has issues, as running configure dies like this: checking for mailman UID... cat: conftest.out: No such file or directory configure: error: ***** No "mailman" user found! ***** Your system must have a "mailman" user defined (usually ***** in your /etc/passwd file). Please see the INSTALL file ***** file details. However, there _is_ a mailman user...I mean, we've been running mailman for months and months, and yes, there is an entry for it in /etc/passwd.
