I forgot my admin password

Help, I manage a mailing list using the mail man software I got from www.list.org. The problem is that I've forgotten my admin password. Is there anyway to get it without having to rebuild the mail list I'm admining? Thanks. Steve.

Hi, I did the install of 2.0rc1 over my Beta 5 version and it went as smooth as silk. I am running on RH 6.2 and my archiving etc is all standard (pipermail etc). What I find though is that the "ACK" messages are giving me wiered subjects.. but when the message gets to the list the subject is fine.. Anyone else experience this ? When a new list is created the mail which gets sent out to the list administration appears to be missing a slash in the URL after hostname/mailman as it says hostname/mailmanadmin/listname and hostname/mailmanlistinfo/listname 2. On the general options of the admin page the parameters which have "yes" and "no" for options do not have them consistently ordered. Most have "No" then "Yes" but I found one that doesn't (the "Send mail to poster when their posting is held for approval?" option). No biggie, just thought it might clean up the interface a little. Two questions on mailman (2.0beta6)

(1) All my list archives are said to be empty. This seems to be because mailman does not write a correct index.html in the appropriate directory. (2) I am asked for approval of postings even though I have configured everyone to be able to post. (3) [Sorry, can't count!] The admin postings to me do not appear to have a date set. (On my mailer they are all said to have date "Jan 1".) Any suggestions or advice gratefully received.

Auto respond to unsubscribed posters

I moderate a closed list, and spend way too much time responding to "unsubscribed posters". Is there anyway to have an automatic reply sent to these unsubscribed posters, instead of having to do it by hand, on each and every post? There is an automatic reply sent to me as list moderator when this happens. Anyway to sent it to the poster instead? TIA

Daily error message

I'm getting the following error constantly (and daily when the checkdbs cronjob runs) -- it also appears to be preventing the admin web UI from working. Any clues? This 2.0b6 running on FreeBSD 4.1.1/Intel and has been upgraded from 2.0b2->b3->b6 -- prior to b6 it was fine. Sure looks like the host you've configured for NNTP isn't found. Did you check that? Subscribe dead for ONE list

Hi, One list (of many) seems to be broken for subscribing on my server. I am running Mailman 2.0b5 on FreeBSD 4.0-STABLE, sendmail... Feature Request

Hello, I managed to get a couple days off (to go to the BSDCon, wooh) and of course everything broke while I was out of the office :) Mailman broke too, I'm afraid. One of our lists sent out a slew of duplicate messages until it was killed manually. This is Mailman 2.0b5 on FreeBSD 4.0-STABLE. I did patch Python to fix the LAST mail looping bug, so I haven't figured out why it misbehaved this time. Anyway, I have a feature request that relates to this. What do you think about adding a lookup table for each list with digests of the bodies of the last day's posts. When Mail man sends message, it could check that table to see if it has already sent an exact duplicate, and perhaps notify the administrator if a duplicate pops up. Does that make sense? I don't do Python yet, or I would attempt this myself. I don't know what caused this last loop, but whatever the reason was, I wish Mailman had some safeguards that would have detected and prevented it. These are pretty painful when they happen. more than one group for cgi?

I have installed mailman but, I am running into a problem with its operation. When I use the web interface it changes the ownership of the lists config.dbs to nobody which is the group that I used to run the configure script. (it is the group apache runs in on my machine.) After the config.dbs are changed by using the web interface I can only get mail to work by changing the ownership back to mailman. Would using both groups in the configure script solve this problem? The docs say this can be done, but what is the proper syntax for using to groups with (--with-cgi-gid=) ? -- Jeff Maxwell jeff(a)crossvalley.com
