I have just setup mailman on one of my machines (it's the second installation I've got running). This machine has multiple domains on it, and the basic hostname (dogma.domain.com) doesn't accept mail for the lists. Which is fine, because I don't want it to. However, one of the lists has reply-to list set (members want it, and it's only a small list). When we get mail from the list, Reply-To: is set to dogma.domain.com, even though in the config for the list, the host_name variable is set to lbedford.org. What makes even less sense is the fact that in the footer it gets the host_name wrong. Moving Mailman ( from SPARC - Solaris7 to i386 - RedHat 6.0 )

I don't know the procedure to move between the two platforms. To make things even harder on the Red Hat box I'm using MM ver 1.1 and on the SPARC I'm using MM ver 1.0. I moved the lists and tried many things but I kept getting bug errors. I might have done it wrong or moved part of what I needed. Any help will be greatly thanked. Hi list I have two serious problems with the template files in mailman 1.1: 1. I can not change the settings of the files subscribe.html and handle_opts.html. If I set the bgcolor in the body tag to black, the background is always white. Strange but the HTML file is OK, the source code in the browser shows me the body tag with the background and I can not find any fault. The problem seems to be independent from the browsers. I have the same error with Netscape and IE. Any idea? 2. I have special german characters in my *.txt files. Mailman works fine. I have added some text in french in verify.txt and now users can not subscribe any longer. Mailman reports a bug and says that there is an invalid character. What can I do, to support even french characters? Thanks for Your help. Markus

tracking down multiple forwards

Hi, Sometimes people use some kind of email forwarding systems/gateway which makes it impossible to see the original email address to which a message was posted. This becomes a problem if the user account doesn't exist anymore and it keeps bouncing back... Does anybody know some tricks how to find out what was the originial email address? When I used majordomo i used to create a perl script that send out a message to all list members and put the address of the destination email address in the subject header so that i could watch for the message to be bounced and find out exactly who it was... Maybe mailman could put the destination address hidden in the mail header, but i'm not sure if that is possible with the way MM sends out the mail... Ricardo.

The message has "554" right in it. Searching for "554" in the documentation finds the right answer immediately. It's hard to imagine how "shuffling the order" is going to help people read docs. You don't have to read everything in sequence and remember it to use documentation in a random-access fashion; that's what careful noting of the error message and "grep" are for.

WEB administration of lists no more working

Hey Mailman people ! We upgrated our site to v1.1 from 1.0rc3 last week, and since that time we are no more able to administrate via the web interface most of our lists. (We have a test list which is fine). For the most of our lists, we can reach the administrative page, with the admin password. The problem occures then we send back the modified formulary: mailman ask the password again and send the un modified page another time, all modifications are losts. A little problem also occures then we try to go from one admin page to another, it asks for the password every time, 1.0rc3 didn't do that. We are sure it is not a cookies problem from our web client, as one test list is working fine. If you have any idea how make it works, please send it to us as soon as possible. Thanks. Jean-Bernard
