large lists question

Hello, First to do is congratulate you all for the great job you are doing, we are using mailman in a lot of machines and is working perfectly, keep doing that great job!. Well, i have a question regarding mailman, we need to create some lists with 5000 mail addresses and we ask ourselves if mailman would support that huge bunch of mails and if the answer is yes, what machine must have the mailman? mail loop for digest members

My ISP is running version 2.01 of Mailman on their Linux 7.2 box. I have 2 mailman lists. One is fine. However twice now I have experienced a mail loop where all digest members received the same digest every 1minute or so. The only thing I could do is to delete the list as my ISP could not stop it (as a side note I only have access to the list through the admin web pages and cannot export the membership list which is a MAJOR problem for me to get it backed up- I cannot run scripts on the server). I have found out the following with the mail loop: Both times the last letter in the digest was from the same person and the header was: --------------------------------- First digest causing a mail loop -------------------------------- ------=_NextPart_001_0004_01C20722.AE6062B0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable ------------------------------ Second digest causing the loop: -------------------------------- --__--__-- As you can see, I cannot tell what this is but have seen it on other members posts as well. The other coincedence was that the two mail loops occurred 1 week apart which is the time when the program creates a new archived volume. Not sure if these are related but this is a real problem. When I re-create the list I have to have the server rebooted first or I cannot get into the admin area via my browser. Again not sure what this all means but my ISP is stumped. I wonder if anyone can help with some advice?? WAyne

slow web administration

Hey there folks, Not sure if anyone else has run across this issue, but it's slowly driving me batty. I currently have mailman 2.0.9-1 running on a Xeon 800 with 500 megs of ram. It has a single mailing list with roughly 450,000 subscribers. I've found that accessing the web interface for administration is incredibly slow. Is there any way to speed that up, or to handle pending admin tasks from the command line? When watching system processes, I notice that python takes up virtually all available CPU when it's loading the web interface. Thanks in advance for any and all assistance. Tremaine --

restricting privileges

Hi, Can anyone suggest a way of restricting privileges in the Mailman web admin pages? In particular I'd like to stop users with list-admin privileges from being able to change the max_message_size setting but still allow site-admins to have full access. Thanks John

Is mailman the thing to use with a big newsletter?

html messages in archives?

hiya, is it possible for messages which were sent in html and/or mime to be displayed in the archives as they were displayed to recipients? default settings seem to display the code as PRE test rather than HTML or MIME. any docs to point me to that I'm missing which touch on this subject? any hacks available if no settings to do it with? thanks, ~Steven

How to handle single quote in subscriber email address

cron logs the following error message from qrunner when attempting to send the subscription confirmation message to a user that has a single in their address (i.e. "john.o'reilly(a)domain.com"). sh: -c: line 1: unexpected EOF while looking for matching `'' sh: -c: line 2: syntax error: unexpected end of file How do I get Mailman to handle addresses that contain a single quote? My configuration: RedHat 7.2, Apache 1.3.23, Python 1.5.2, Sendmail 8.11.6, Mailman 2.0.11 -Cassandra
