Hi, all My previous query to the list is still pending, but on the assumption that we, or I, will find the answer, I'm preparing the groundwork for moving several lists that I run from YahooGroups to Mailman. I sent a request to YG's tech support asking how to download the archives as a single file, but I doubt they will help me move away from their service. So, I ask the list: Is this something that one of you has done before, and if so, how did you do it? I scanned the list management pages on YG extensively but found nothing that was very helpful. Their online help was...umm...useless to anyone smart enough to operate a web browser. Helpful advice like, if you want to manage the membership of your list, go to the members page. Imagine that! minimum python level for mailman 2.1

Ok - I've been trying for a week to get my python upgraded in preparation for mm2.1 And its just not wanting to compile everything. I keep getting messages like: WARNING: removing "struct" since importing it failed when compiling Python 2.2.1 and nothing I can play with is fixing things. So - Whats the bare minimum level of python needed to support mm2.1? I have 1.6 running. I think I had compiled 2.0.x maybe even a 2.1.x at one point But 2.2.x seems to be unachievable.

New user needs some help

Hi, I am new to the list. I use mailman for a list serve about old cameras. We have about 250 people on the list. We have the system set to block all messages from non-members. This filter works well. I am getting so many blocked messages it is becoming a problem just to discard thay each night. I am getting about 50 per day. I go to each held message and mark it for Discard each night. My question is: Is there any way I can set the filter to do an automatic discard all the messages it stops. Bob Kelly

First time user of Mailman - setup question

Firstly my apologies for asking a question I am sure has been asked before but I couldn't see a way to view archives. I have installed Mailman-2.0.11 on Mandrake Linux 7.2 and have attempted to follow the instructions. I have and one problem and a question. My question is what should I enter for the DEFAULT_URL. In my case my web server is sitting at port 7777 and I am wanting to know if DEFAULT_URL should equal "http://abc.com/mailman/" or "http://abc.com:7777/mailman/" My problem (and I am sure it is my problem, but am having a very dumb moment) When running newlist I get a perl script exception stating "host could not be found". Now I would have thought this would have been a pretty basic error and I confirmed that in the mm_cfg.py file I have entered the DEFAULT_HOST_NAME = "host.abc.com" I am also able to ping the hostname that I entered in this file so I am a bit lost and would appreciate some input. BTW I have Perl V5.6 on my linux box Thanks, Colin

2.1b2 membership management page

2.1b2 obscuring all poster information

Hello! I'm using 2.1b2, and have set up a moderated list. The main problem I'm having is that whoever posts, whatever their individual settings, the list is hiding the poster information and setting the Reply-To: back to the list. I've specifically configured the list so that Reply-To: should be set back to the poster, then configured it the other way, to see if that had any effect; none noticeable. I've cleared the "Hide address" flag on every member -- no effect. There does not seem to be any way to effect this behavior from the management interface. Is there a command-line option I can use, or am I going to be stuck with re-setting up the list and being more careful with what options I pick on setup? -- Devin L. Problem with archives

I've got a strange problem with the archives. Mailman 2.0.10, Python 2.2 on a Red Hat 7.1 box. Apache is configured correctly (all web features except the archive work), the list is working, etc. When I go to the list archive page (either public or private), I get You can get more information about this list or you can download the full raw archive ( 155 KB ). Currently, there are no archives. When I check {prefix}/archives/private/list.mbox/list.mbox, message are getting added as they're sent. runing check_perms reports no errors. Running {prefix}/bin/arch listname generates the flowing output: Pickling archive state into {prefix}/archives/private/listname/pipermail.pck Yet I still get the "Currently, there are no archieves." message. I've checked {prefix}/archives/private/listname/index.html and it's not a caching issue. It appears that even arch isn't generating the web archive. But I've looked at the mbox file. All the messages are there, and are getting added... I've checked the FAQ's. I've read the docs. I've searched as best I could the list archives, and I'm not finding anything. I've tried doing a rebuild and reinstall. Nothing seems to work. I'm stumped. Anybody got any ideas? Dave

control local file error, help

hello I have Rh 7.2,, qmail-1.0.3 mailman-2.0.11 with Maildir as box qmail is ok, i just have installed mailman, the web interfaz: localhost/mailman/admin is ok, I can add, delete users, and they can receive the \\\"Welcome\\\" message sended by mailman, but they can\\\'t receive the mesages posted to the list, i receive the Failure Notice: \\\"Sorry. Although I\\\'m listed as a best-preference MX or A for that host, it isn\\\'t in my control/locals file, so I don\\\'t treat it as local. (#5.4.6)\\\" excuseme by I don\\\'t understand this error, and the qmail\\\'s log show: \\\" \\\"deferral:Temporary_error_on_maildir_delivery\\\" and : #ls /home/mailman/archives/public lrwxrwxrwx root mailman test ->~mailman/archives/private/test lrwxrwxrwx root mailman test.mbox ->~mailman/archives/private/test.mbox but the directory ~mailman/archives/private/test doesn\\\'t exist is it ok? Unsubscribing without a password
