errors in subscription process

I'm getting errors in the subscription process. Background: I'm not sure whether this is a problem with the way my ISP has mailman set up or if it is something I can fix. The MTA in use there is Exim 3.35 #1, and it is configured such that all mail to my domain that isn't directed to a particular account goes into my inbox. When users subscribe to my list they get the "reply to this to confirm" message. When they respond to that message, *I* am getting the message (ie. the messages aren't getting routed to listname-request(a)domain.org). Creating a test list

I am trying to install Mailman but running into problems when trying to create the test list. I run the file $prefix/bin/newlist but it comes back with saying: "/usr/bin/env: No such file or directory" Even though there is a file /usr/bin/env and is executable by everyone. Only administrator can send to mailman

Is there a way I can set mailman up so that it only allows the administrator to send e-mails to the mailing list? Meaning the members can't post to the list - only the administrator? Thanks, Ben

problems

Hello My name is Camelia Botez and I'm system admin in Weizmann Institute. A couple of weeks ago I installed mailman on our webserver ( we intend to use the same server for web and mail). Our webserver is outside the firewall (on dmz) and when I try to send e-mail to one of the lists I don't get back any error message ( in fact the messages I get suggest that the mail was sent successfuly) but noone from the list get sany e-mail. I tried the same thing from inside firewall and works. It is possible that the wrapper program works on a specific port or doesn't know how to pass the firewall ? Thank you

I have some mailing list using mailman. How can i set up the list so that only me ant the designated people are able to send email to the list and no one else? I´ll apreciate your comments. Armando Elizondo.

Quick examination of the differences suggests that the majority (over 80%) of it is KLEZ and various other virii. The particularly nice thing about this is that within those same three days no virus messages have made it thru to the moderation queue for the subject lists, and only two SPAM messages have made it thru to the moderation queues. That's a considerable decrease from prior rates. As you can see from the numbers as well, its also a considerable byteage decrease, resulting in a more responsive moderation interface (I typically moderate queues of 20 - 40 valid messages at a time with the entire message in the "excerpt" textarea, so reducing the total size of the submitted form is valued). Very pleasant. virtual domains

Has anybody gotten the virtual domain functionality to work? I need it for my box. I have a dedicated server with serveral domains on it. I want to switch all the majordomo stuff to mailman, if possible. Also, is there any cgi or php pages developed to enable a user, once inside one of the sites, to create his/her own list? Thanks... deleting held-messages...

I have a cron to delete held-messages, but after that i can see there is a lot of new held-messages again. I want to know why appear in mailman once again those messages????? subscribeak.txt modifications

Hi all, First -- thank you for everyone's help figuring out how to customize the actual welcome message (not the prepend text). Now, for the problem: I'd like to know if there is a command that needs to be included in subscribeack.txt that would pull the prepend message and insert properly (and that probably got erased when they made subscribeack.txt blank). Here are the details: I'd like to leave the welcome message blank (as suggested on this list), so that the prepend text becomes the entire message. I don't have access to the server but my host has been trying out all the suggestions you provided. When the subscribeack.txt is left blank, the prepend portion never appeared and the welcome message is blank. I figured maybe there had to be something to prepend above, so had the admin insert a line of text - but the welcome message now only includes that one line, never the prepended text. This is what made me think some sort of string needs to be inserted to force subscribeack.txt to included the proper pre-pend info. My host's admin could not find any command or variable that would do this and I don't have access to a Unix machine, so I can't look at the help files. I did a thorough search of the archives and could only find suggestions that the subscribeack.txt file be left blank, and prepend text would automatically appear. Thanks!
