order of checking in mailman

I've found either a configuration error (on my part) or a possible flaw in the way mailman checks posts to lists. Others may not consider this a flaw, and I appologize if I've managed to miss this in any previous discussions. I created a list for testing and told it to limit posts to those individuals who are already subscribed to the list. Then I told it to make the list moderated, forcing approval of each message. It appears when I send messages to the list from a non-subscribed address, they show up in the administrative tasks as "Reason: Post to moderated list" when in fact they should show up (in my opinion) as "Reason: Post by non-member to a members-only list" Otherwise, unless I'm missing something, you have no way of knowing if the moderated post you're reading is from a list-subscriber or not. Is there a way to make mailman check the subscription issue prior to simply bouncing the message to the queue due to the list being moderated? The only flaw I can see is if this would cause the message to go through the approval process twice, but I'm sure that could be solved as well. p.s. - I wrote this out and then realized I'm mailing a mailing list, so if you reply, please consider sending it to me directly or via a cc: Thanks! -jeff

I've searched the world over until I found nothing.... I'm trying to make error pages and list view pages custom to the design of my site. The individual list pages are complete, but... Has anyone had any luck with this, or can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks, Mike

howto make 'notmetoo' default?

Hi, I would like to make one or more options in the Membership Management for all available lists default when adding a new member, e.g. set 'notmetoo' or 'ack'. Is there a way of doing this through crontab, say check this setting once a day and change it through some shell-script? Thanks in advance. Tom

slow web administration

Hey there folks, Not sure if anyone else has run across this issue, but it's slowly driving me batty. I currently have mailman 2.0.9-1 running on a Xeon 800 with 500 megs of ram. It has a single mailing list with roughly 450,000 subscribers. I've found that accessing the web interface for administration is incredibly slow. Is there any way to speed that up, or to handle pending admin tasks from the command line? When watching system processes, I notice that python takes up virtually all available CPU when it's loading the web interface. Thanks in advance for any and all assistance. Tremaine --

address obscuring problem

For one of my lists, I have "show member addrs so they're not recognizable as email addrs" set to "no", and if I do a dump of that lists' db, I see that obscure_addresses = 0. But when I look at the archives, all of the >From headers show up like this: From: list(a)example.com (Joel Uckelman) when they should be like this: From: Joel Uckelman <uckelman(a)example.com> I've nixed the list archives and regenerated them from the mbox, but it still seems to be obscuring addresses. What's going on here? -- J.
