I guess now that mm2.1 has been released, general questions should go here? If not, let me know and I'll send to -dev. Just installed mm2.1 and moved over some lists yesterday. Today I found the following in logs/error: Jan 02 18:58:19 2003 (35619) message is unparsable: 1041551899.569575+77534d9e5771753ab3fb0698e063c621da3b4223 Jan 02 18:58:19 2003 (35619) lost data files for filebase: 1041551899.569575+77534d9e5771753ab3fb0698e063c621da3b4223 I see there's a file with that filename in qfiles/bad which seems to be spam sent to mailman-owner. Questions - should I be worried about the "lost data files" message? - is there a 'proper' way to deal with this message, or can I just rm the file? I get a lot of spam sent to mailman-owner, so seems likely I'll get a few of these... Thanks! Bryan

Whether the mailman list config databases before the apache upgrade had the nobody user set, I do not know. What could have changed from doing the apache upgrade? Archive and web link problems with 2.1

I just installed Mailman 2.1 this morning. I'm discovering a couple problems and I'm not sure if they are mine or mailman's. 1. When I go to the private archive for a list at http://mcswartz.org.swartz/mailman/private/listname, I see the usual possibilities. Unfortunately the links do not work. For example, to view archives by thread for this year, the URL is: http://mcswartz.org.swartz/mailman/private/2003q1/thread.html This doesn't work because it is missing the list name. The correct URL is: http://mcswartz.org.swartz/mailman/private/listname/2003q1/thread.html Is this a problem in Mailman, or is my configuration wrong somehow? I installed Mailman 2.1 from source into the default location. I'm running RedHat7.3, so this was not the location where Mailman 2.0.13 was installed. After everything was installed, I moved my lists to the new location (from /var/mailman/lists to /usr/local/mailman/lists). 2. I'm not sure if this is a problem or is as intended. I am running a small personal network. My server computer, which runs sendmail and apache, is inside my network and behind my firewall/router. Because of this, I need have aliases set up that allow me to access my webpages. That means that although my real site is www.mcswartz.org, I access it internally as mcswartz.org.swartz (as I showed above). My problem is that on some of the administration pages, some links link to http://mcswartz.org.swartz/mailman/... and other's link to http://www.mcswartz.org/mailman/... For example, from http://mcswartz.org.swartz/mailman/admin/listname/members, I can access all of the "configuration categories" correctly, but I cannot "Go to list archives". Even more annoying, I can only see the A's that are subscribed to my list because all of the other letters link to the www.mcswartz.org URLs, which I cannot access internally.

Problem when starting mailmanctl ("Cannot import runner module xxx")

Hi, when I start mailmanctl (with ./mailmanctl start) it shows many errors: # ./mailmanctl start Starting Mailman's master qrunner. 'advertised' setting being ignored (problem in 2.1?)

Hi, I'm trying out version 2.1 and am having problems with the 'advertised' option. This can be changed by a list administrator and 'list_lists -a' will show or not show it, depending on the current setting. However, on the 'listinfo' page at 'http://.../mailman/listinfo/', it doesn't show up; I just get 'there currently are no publicly-advertised Mailman mailing lists' (I can get to the relevant listinfo/admin page by putting in the URL manually). I have tried a manual refresh. Is there a global setting somewhere [I haven't found one], have I missed something else, or is it a bug? Hi: I upgrade to Mailman 2.1 and found two things : 1-I have .mbox older than one year with archivers configured to one month. I recreate the files and bin/arch seems to know not much about the years, he mixes january from 2002 and 2003. Is there any way to avoid that if a have more that a year of messages on a .mbox ? 2-One reason for me to move to version 2.1 was the attachments separation, but i found that he change the last letter of the extension , for example store "myfile.xls" as "myfile.xlb", sould i have something missconfigured ? Jorge PD: English is not my first language.

Thanks to suggestion from Barry, I think I resolved my troubles. I found the problem of URL inside the Default.py, in fact the default URL was changed (maybe MM picked up the name of server automatically). I changed it and it works, at now at least! :) The wrapper question was resolved changing the name of wrapper inside aliases in QMail (in fact they pointed to /wrapper and not to /mailman). I have now one more question. I used "newlist" script to make a new test list. I see that, differently to 2.0.13, alias in qmail don't be created automatically. So I read the Default.py and I see part about MTA="Manual" to print aliases... have I to set it different to reset again to automatically aliases to Qmail? vhosts (does it ever end?)

Under MM2.0.x I created separate installations for different virtual hosts. This allowed me to create the same list name, on a different virtual host without having mailman conflict. Now, with MM2.1, how should I continue to do this? I have one single machine that hosts several domains. I need to be able to create the same list name across different domains, and have them behave as separate lists as well. So, test(a)virtual.domain1.com and test(a)virtual.domain2.com should be two separate lists. Since I'm using sendmail, and I make use of virtusertable, I need to specify each mailto address for sendmail to accept mail properly. Keeping all of this in mind, can, or will MM2.1 be able to do same-name list virtual hosting, or am I better off continuing my old setup of multiple MM installations, one for each virtual domain? -- W | I haven't lost my mind; it's backed up on tape somewhere. +-------------------------------------------------------------------- Ashley M.
