Hi, I am new to this mailman business, I was wondering if there is an easy way to allow people to auto subscribe. Is there an email address that they can send an email to that will auto subscribe them? Thanks, Dave.

I am using the %(variable)s to fill a form on a new page created with JavaScript window.open and newWindow.document.write . When I use "%(body)s" the JavaScript comes up with an error and won't write. But it works fine with: %(subject_html)s %(author_html)s %(email_url)s %(in_reply_to_url)s %(email_html)s %(datestr_html)s I am in over my head here - anyone have a crumb for me? Paul

so close

I am very close to getting a working post from the web form going, but I have one huddle left. I have tired to dig this up on Goggle, but don't even know the question to ask. Mailman uses some variables of the form "Subject=%(subject_url)s" and "%(body)s". Is there a variable of this nature that holds the username of the person logged into a private archive? I need to pass the username (e-mail address) when I use a open.window and document.write to create a page that will be used to send a post to the list. I was getting the username in a cookie, but I can't get the JavaScript to work in the created page. The %()s variable work just find, so I need to get the users e-mail into such a variable. Any help greatly appreciated. Paul

"Loop" mail

A bit of a hunt through the archives didn't seem to produce an answer... I have some lists on my server that is also running "Trusted Mail", a spam and virus checker. This is working fine, except that Trusted Mail is adding a number of Received lines in the headers as it goes through the system. If a message is being delivered to an address in the same domain, it goes round all over again and adds another batch (typically five of them) This means that when the message is finally delivered to some of the more "picky" ISPs, it is thrown out "because the message was forwarded more than the maximum allowed times. This could indicate a mail loop." Is there an easy way to strip these headers out? Or do I just need to ditch TrustedMail? Chris

Can't Change URL on Archives Page

In the archives page of a list I created with Mailman I need to change the link on the archives page that points to "more information about this list" The URL is incorrect and I can't find a way to change it. I originally input the wrong value, but can't find a way to change it. Should I delete the list, delete the archive and start again? The list is new. hello, i realized some strange behavior of mailman with the EXTERNAL_PUBLIC_ARCHIVER option. simply setting it to '/usr/bin/id > /tmp/log 2>&1' gives in /tmp/log: uid=38(list) gid=38(list) groups=0(root),102(lpadmin),109(shutdown) at commandline: $ whoami list $ id uid=38(list) gid=38(list) groups=38(list),106(lurker) why does user list member different lists in the two cases? same uid, same gid, only the lists it members are different. bye mejo -- Efficiency and progess is ours one more Now that we have the Neutron bomb It's nice and quick and clean and gets things done Kill kill kill kill kill the poor tonight

Problem with getting started

I have RedHat 9 and Mailman 2.1 (not 2.1.2). When using the RedHat command # service mailman start I get the following error traceback. Traceback (most recent call last): File "/var/mailman/bin/mailmanctl", line 524, in ? main() File "/var/mailman/bin/mailmanctl", line 319, in main check_privs() File "/var/mailman/bin/mailmanctl", line 274, in check_privs gid = grp.getgrnam(mm_cfg.MAILMAN_GROUP)[2] KeyError: getgrnam(): name not found Has anyone seen this and is there a fix? I could not find anything resembling this in the archives on this list. ALSO: Are there any specific docs about initial setup and configuration. What is available seems pretty sketchy.
