At the top of every Mailman mailing list, is the set of following headers: List-Id: Mailman mailing list management users <mailman-users.python.org> List-Unsubscribe: <http://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/mailman-users>, <mailto:mailman-users-request@python.org?subject=unsubscribe> List-Archive: <http://mail.python.org/pipermail/mailman-users> List-Post: <mailto:mailman-users@python.org> List-Help: <mailto:mailman-users-request@python.org?subject=help> List-Subscribe: <http://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/mailman-users>, <mailto:mailman-users-request@python.org?subject=subscribe> At least, those mailing lists which are configured to display the RFC 2369 headers. Users can click on the URLs provided, which will fill in the required fields for them, to the appropriate addresses (for the list in question). Alternatively, you can point them at the documentation for the user e-mail interface to Mailman at <http://www.list.org/mailman-member/node10.html>. -- Brad Knowles, <brad.knowles(a)skynet.be> "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." -- Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790), reply of the Pennsylvania Assembly to the Governor, November 11, 1755 SAGE member since 1995. Max message size

Is there a parameter that sets the max message size for a list? NOT the one in the web interface, that people with the list admin account can change whenever, but a system-level one...?

Mailman on Mac OS X Server
by Steve Burling July 7, 2004

July 7, 2004

This was posted on MacInTouch today; it might help the person who was having trouble with Mailman on Mac OS X... A new Apple KB article <http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107906> offers a workaround for a repair permissions problem with mailing lists on Mac OS X Server (apparently fixed in Mac OS X Server 10.3.4): Using the "Repair Disk Permissions" feature in Disk Utility can disable or impair mailing lists. Repair Disk Permissions changes the group permission from the "mailman" to "wheel" for many items at /usr/share/mailman. This stops mailman processes from running with the correct permissions and can interrupt lists' operation. -- Steve Burling <mailto:srb@umich.edu> University of Michigan, ICPSR Voice: +1 734 615.3779 330 Packard Street FAX: +1 734 647.8700 Ann Arbor, MI 48104-2910

LDAP authentication
by Slava Iutin July 7, 2004

July 7, 2004

Hello, I would like to insert mailman in some rather big system. LDAP is used as storage of user accounts. It is possible to use LDAP for managing (authentication) of users? Where could I get more information about it? Google talks something not very clear. Or should I add some code for that? Did anybody resolve this task in the past? Thank you very much. -- Slava

Hello All, Is there any way in Mailman to strip the attachments from the mail and store it in a directory? For e.g., I have a mailing list and I want all the attachments (only) to be moved/copied to a particular directory. Is this possible with Mailman? Thanks for any help. Regards, Sandeep
