You need to define both to Postfix in main.cf in the alias_maps = hash:aliasfile1 hash:aliasfile2 line. Keep the permissions on the system file as they are, so that the "newaliases" command will work. The permissions on the Mailman-generated aliases file need to match the --with-mail-gid= parameter on the ./configure statement. I just noticed that on my Ubuntu system there is no system aliases file, so I do not have a definition for postmaster, MAILER-DAEMON, and the other common userids. When I create a new list and put my email address, I do receive a confirmation. I can deliver mail as root also from my server. Once I try and post to the list is when nothing happens, just a bounce back saying the "Connection is refused." The only clue I can see if the following in my maillog: Command output: local: fatal: execvp /usr/local/mailman/mail/mailman: Permission denied I read the above error means postfix does not have permissions to access the mailman wrappers. Before I post this question to a postfix listserv, I wanted to confirm my permissions were correct. Here is what I have for /usr/local/mailman/mail/mailman: -rwxrwsr-x 1 mailman mailman 16887 Oct 15 09:10 mailman My aliases.db file is owned by root. I am running... Red Hat 5.1 Postfix 2.3.3 Mailman 2.1.11 Also, when I run check_perms - f as root it says "no problems found" Jewel

clue to moderation

Hi friends. With Mailman, is there any clue in a received message header that the original message went through moderation and was approved -- as opposed to being sent unmoderated? problem with mailman and postfix

What happened to my archive? Why isn't the archive process running?

Okay, so now that I've got finally mailman moved and running on the new server and working with postfix and apache2 and sending and receiving emails and all that basic "stuff", I still have one question I haven't been able to answer. I seem to be missing two full months worth of archives. From what I can tell looking at my backups, it appears that the last time the archive process actually ran on our old server was in early August. Then for some reason it stopped funning and thee have been no archive updates since then. I suspect those "lost messages" aren't really lost at all but are merely caught in some sort of internal blockage in mailman. What I'm trying to figure out here is how to clear the clogged drain pipe and get the archive working again. When I first installed the backup from the old server to the new one and then checked the list's configuration parameters, I saw some parameters on the Archiving options page that provided for "rebuilding" the archive. But now those options seem to have disappeared now too. Can Mark or someone else tell me how I go about figuring out where my missing messages have gone and get the archive working again as it should be? Thanks.

Mailman installation with more then 16000 lists

Hello everyone, It appears we hit the 32k-inodes-per-directory limit in ext2fs today, so mailman can't create any new lists. We could of course move the lists to an XFS filesystem, but I was wondering if there is a way to not have mailman create 2 entries in the lists directory for every mailing list (maybe by grouping them in subdirectories or so). Does anyone have an idea? Feature reqeust for wiki.list.org - short URLs

Hello world, first of all, the Mailman wiki at http://wiki.list.org/ is really very helpful. I've come to find it's structure very clean and easy to understand. Especially the FAQ part is very, very helpful and saved me lots of time when trying to troubleshoot a problem. But - there is one thing about the length of URLs. Let's consider for example (long line incoming): http://wiki.list.org/display/DOC/4.16+How+do+I+prevent+duplicate+copies+of+… If I click on Tools -> Info, the wiki presents me the shorter URL: http://wiki.list.org/x/eoA9 Do you think it's possible to modify the wiki code as to present this shorter URL on every page so that one could copy the short link without having to call Tools -> Info? msg_footer and standard message signature question

hello, we have stumbled upon a problem, that in msg_footer, Mailman discards the space at the end of the signature delimiter "-- ", which should be two dashes and space, according to http://www.guckes.net/mail/sig.etiquette.html#sigdashes the code (Mailman/Handlers/Decorate.py) says text = re.sub(r' *\r?\n', r'\n', template % d) so all the spaces before newline are eaten by the regex: is there any specific reason to strip the spaces? The previous version of mailman just changed \r\n to \n ... We want to correct the signature problem, but we don't want any regression... thanks and regards, Daniel Novotny

Mailman doesn't post messages anymore

Hello everyone, there is a mailman problem on my machine which i cannot really locate. I can send a mail to one of the lists. The mail is delivered to mailman. But then as I see in the postfix logs, the mail never returns back to the postfix system. Instead, mailman produces errors like these: # cat /var/lib/mailman/logs/post | tail -1 Oct 27 11:03:33 2008 (5104) post to testliste from mail@xxx, size=2150, message-id=<200810270909.31448@inter>, 4 failures The list "testliste" has 4 recipients, that's why the 4 failures, I think. Giving Non-Administrator Access To Simple Admin Functions

Hello, I am currently administering a small Mailman 2.11 list for our volunteer organization. Another individual needs the basic ability to subscribe, unsubscribe and possibly list members. This person thinks that they are a lot more computer literate than they are and I don't want to give them the password to the web configuration interface for fear that they will mess something up that will take me hours to figure out and fix. I am an embedded hardware engineer and not a programmer but I am careful enough not to change settings or list parameters without thoroughly testing the changes. So far I have managed to stay out of trouble! :-) Is it possible to do these rudimentary functions via the e-mail interface? If so can you point me to some documentation on how to do this? The only information I have found on the email interface seems to be directed to an individual user changing their own parameters and not to admin functions. Would I then have to add this person as an administrator and then just not tell them about the other email commands or the existence of the web interface? Any other suggestions? Thanks, Steve P.S. These admins and users are all on Windows boxes so any solution cannot be Linux specific.
