I want all mails sent to the list to come from the list's email address...
But, in this case, if the user forgets to sign their name at the
bottom of their mail body, effectively the mail to the list is
Is there a way to add the user name (or email address) to the top of
each mail so that the mails have the name of the sender, while the
mail itself comes from the list address?
I have looked high and low for an answer, but noone seems to have the solution.
I received the following error this morning. So I rerun configure again with the following command: ./configure --with-cgi-id=apache --prefix=/var/mailman. I'm still getting the same error. Is there any place that I can look for so that I can debug this problem better? Perhaps, looking at the config history file or something. Any other places that I can check the cause of this error?
"Mailman CGI error!!!
The Mailman CGI wrapper encountered a fatal error. This entry is being stored in your syslog:
Group mismatch error. Mailman expected the CGI
wrapper script to be executed as group "nobody", but
the system's web server executed the CGI script as
group "apache". Try tweaking the web server to run the
script as group "nobody", or re-run configure,
providing the command line option `--with-cgi-gid=apache'."
Hi - I have searched FAQ and archives to find an answer. Hoping you can
I have a new list (with previously imported addresses) for announcements
only, and wish these announcements to be received immediately.
I set the defaults to allow non-digest and to not allow digest.
I wish to send out announcements in html, and so wish to make the
default for new subscribers be MIME. While I see a setting under Digest
Options (MIME_is_Default_Digest), I don't see any equivalent option
under Non-Digest Options... and new subscribers continue to come in as
In order to avoid having to manually change this option for each
existing subscriber, is there a way to force all existing subscribers to
receive MIME in Non-Digest mode?
If not, is there a way to force all NEW subscribers to be enrolled with
MIME as their default?
Also, is there a way to "lock" the MIME switch on, so that users who try
to change their option to plain text will be prevented from doing so?
I've just set up my first Mailman mailing list in OS X Server. It sends mail
as welcome notifications were received by several different members
subscribed to the mailing list. However, it doesn't seem to be receiving
e-mail. All attempts I've made have resulted in Delivery Failure
This is the text returned with this Delivery Failure Notifications:
> Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:
> Technical details of permanent failure:
> Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient

> User unknown in virtual alias table (state 14).
What could be the cause ?
In order for a Mailman list to work properly do I need to create an account
for it in Workgroup Manager with its e-mail address ?
Sorry if this is a simple question but I am not an IT specialist and don't
have any experience with Mailman.
Thank you in advance,
How do we stop Mailman from re-sending out messages in the query? and How do we clear the entire query out? Can we remove certain messages from the query? Mailman version 2.1.12 and Exim 4
Thank you for your advice,
I happened to manage a mailing list of Spain. I want to use the name
España as "real name" and as "subject prefix", but I don't know if the
Spanish character "ñ" can cause problems. Can I do?
I have access only to the Mailman administrative interface, not the server
itself. The Mailman version is 2.1.11.
We are having an issue with messages sent out through Mailman server that don't reach a specific email domain. In the exim main log, we see these error messages repeatedly show up:
email(a)thatdomain.com R=dnslookup T=remote_smtp defer (-53): retry time not reached for any host
email(a)thatdomain.com R=dnslookup T=remote_smtp defer (110): Connection timed out
Our Mailman server is not on any blacklist. What would likely be the issue here?
Thank you in advance for any advice,
All of our lists have separate list owners, but I would like to add a secondary list owner to all the mailing lists, is there a way to do this by command line?

I have looked and cannot find it.
Is there a setting for bouncing message with multiple to's or to: and CC:
We want mail coming in to our list to be only for our list and not being
sent to others in the same message.

I am testing migrating Mailman from an Ubuntu Dapper system with
my own Mailman 2.1.14 package built from the SourceForge source
to an Ubuntu Lucid system with the Debian Lucid Mailman 2.1.13
I tested the Lucid system, and then I copied
/var/lib/mailman/qfiles [no files present]
from my test Dapper to the Lucid system. I then rebuilt the
file (each system has test lists). The question regards
The current file on Lucid has "0x2010ef0", and before the merge it had
"0x2010df0". I have not done extensive testing with the lists I copied,
but I had no trouble accessing the admin web pages for a few lists.
Given that the Lucid installation is 2.1.13, should the
last_mailman_version be set back to "0x2010df0"? I am assuming that
there will be no problems with the list config files in
between 2.1.13 and 2.1.14. I have not loooked in detail at the Debian
patches to 2.1.13, other than to discard most of them when I attempted
to build a 2.1.14 Lucid package from the SourceForge source. The only
problem I had in building the package is that is was built for AMD64
(as I have on Dapper), not for X86-64 (as I have on Lucid). I have not
yet had the time to determine why, as I am told that I have to install
the Debian Lucid package. Thanks.
