multiple footers accumulating on messages as discussion progresses - how to eliminate all but the last mailman footer?

I'm not sure what you call the long tail of footers that accumulates on messages, but I would like to eliminate all prior footers (from the same list). When the new reply goes out, it should include only one footer. BTW, we're using full personalization and one link in the footer is like this: %(user_optionsurl)s We could wrap the footer in a tag of some type if that would help. Any suggestions? I would think this is a common request, but I can't find any mention of it anywhere. Regards, Dave

which firewall ports does Mailman require to be opened?

On an Ubuntu 10.04 server that does nothing but run Mailman (with Postfix) in a completely standard installation, which ports should be opened in iptables? Everything except Mailman and SSH is going to be denied.

Un/subscribe to a Mailman list via a publicly available website

Greetings: We have a number of public websites which provide users with updated information about the site through a Mailman list. Currently, users can complete a typical HTML form and submit their email address. The website sends an email to a staff person's email account who then manually subscribes the email address using the Mailman admin website. We'd like to remove the manual process and program the website in such a way the user's email address is sent to the list and it is automatically subscribed. I've read copious amounts of Mailman documentation and list archives but haven't figured out how this could be done. We tried having the website "spoof" an email coming from the user but this didn't pan out in part because of the password issue. Is this even possible to do with Mailman? Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Cancelling new subscriber notifications

Running mailman 2.1.9 Someone set up a legit list with 35,000 subscribers and they accidentally checked the box to send out subscribe notifications. So now there are 35,000 emails going to users telling them they are new members of this list. I went in and changed the list settings but it's too late. Is there any way I can stop mailman from finishing sending out subscribe notifications? It will probably take hours to get through the entire list. I can't find anything. I am going to check to see if I can do anything in postfix but thought I'd try one last ditch effort here in the mailman forum. --Rick--

hi all hoping someone can help me out here.... i purchased a hosting package but it does not have any mail list function id like to use mailman to manage a list of 20-30 people. very small. send email to listname@mydomain all 30 people get the email. dont need any email marketing or other fancy functions i'm taking offers from people who would be able to install this on my webserver for me. let me know what sort of money you are after to help me out with this thanks in advance michael(a)goinggone.com.au

Bounce processing for low/sporadic traffic

From what I can gather from the docs, the bounce score: * is incremented (by .5 or 1) each day there is a bounce * is reset only if no bounces occur within bounce_info_stale_after days In particular, the score is *not* altered when a message is delivered successfully. I have some announce lists with very sporadic traffic. So it seems I need a high bounce_info_stale_after value to ensure that things don't reset, but if I have bursts of activity I can easily wind up booting addresses that have a few transient failures but still work most of the time. I guess -- assuming this is how things work -- my question comes down to, why doesn't the bounce score get reset or decremented by a successful delivery? - Adam

Problems with local network: mailman 2.1.5 + Sendmail

Hi guys, i'm having some problems with this configuration: local network I've configured mm_cfg.py just adding: DEFAULT_URL_HOST = fqdn DEFAULT_EMAIL_HOST = fqdn DELIVERY_MODULE = 'Sendmail' I've set mmsite pass and created the newlist called mailman.Also i've created another list so as to test, and i've added two members to them (i can see in files that all of this is correct).I've putted new aliases in /etc/aliasesSendmail lets me send and receive local mail (i can see it in /var/spool/mail). The problem is when i try to post something to the list. Where does Mailman get this mail?How send it to the rest of the members? Sorry for my beginner questionThank!

regarding Archive messages

Hello, We can just see the archive til 9th March 2012 on our mailing list and after that there is no archive shown. What may be the cause? regards, Amit Bhatt
