Mailman-users:
I have a problem that I was hoping that you guys might have some
insight into.
I'm running Mailman 2.1.14_6 on FreeBSD 9.2-STABLE with postfix
2.11.1 as the MTA. I recently upgraded all of my ports, and in doing so
managed to break mailman. I was messing with owners and permissions, but
eventually figured out to remake mailman by hand to work with postfix.
But. . .
Now mailman posts just disappear. Here's the output from the
postfix maillog:
Jan 5 06:45:39 oom9 …
[View More]postfix/pickup[5668]: 142FE3D7E: uid=1002 from=<jason(a)barnesos.net>
Jan 5 06:45:39 oom9 postfix/cleanup[5841]: 142FE3D7E: message-id=<alpine.BSF.2.11.1501050645320.5817(a)oom9.barnesos.net>
Jan 5 06:45:39 oom9 postfix/qmgr[46022]: 142FE3D7E: from=<jason(a)barnesos.net>, size=662, nrcpt=1 (queue active)
Jan 5 06:45:39 oom9 postfix/trivial-rewrite[5842]: warning: do not list domain barnesos.net in BOTH mydestination and virtual_alias_domains
Jan 5 06:45:39 oom9 postfix/local[5843]: 142FE3D7E: to=<posttest(a)barnesos.net>, relay=local, delay=0.46, delays=0.15/0.01/0/0.3, dsn=2.0.0, status=sent (delivered to command: /usr/local/mailman/mail/mailman post posttest)
Jan 5 06:45:39 oom9 postfix/qmgr[46022]: 142FE3D7E: removed
So that all looks fine. In fact when I run that command,
"/usr/local/mailman/mail/mailman post posttest" by hand as the mailman
user (after a temporary change from it being /sbin/nologin), it works
fine. When I control-C out of that it gives me an error message in the
mailman logs under 'error'. But when I pipe in a file to post it just
goes away. None of the logs get updated to a new date, and nothing else
seems to change. It's just gone.
Any idea how to diagnose the problem? Without an error message
I'm struggling to know where to go next. Thanks in advance if anyone has
any ideas!

I run a list at fair_housing@(my domain here).
Over the last few days, I've received some spammy non-member submissions
from these e-mail addresses:
fair_housingbnqq(a)maxcom.net.mx
fair_housinghjhn(a)woohoo.ro
fair_housingrjs(a)fourlads.com
fair_housingrprs(a)pepempilhadeiras.com.br
<mailto:fair_housingrprs@pepempilhadeiras.com.br>
So clearly these aren't totally random - they have bot-generated addresses
based on the address of my list. I would like to add these and e-…

addresses like them to my sender filter to be discarded upon receipt. I am
vaguely aware that one can use regular expressions to do this, but I don't
want to screw something up and filter out legit posters. Can someone help
me with the correct regex?
Thanks,

Hello -
We upgraded to *2.1.14* not too long ago and made the discovery that when a
new list is created, the *lines that used to get written automatically into
the aliases file are no longer automatically written,* instead they are
displayed on the screen with the instructions to cut and paste them in.
(This change may have occurred long ago as far as we know; our previous
version was *2.1.9*)
This would not be much of a bother if we only had to make a new list
occasionally, but we make lists …
[View More]for all our courses at the beginning of
each semester, and to do this *we have a perl script that automatically
generates over 500 lists in batch mode*.
The same problem occurs when we remove the previous semester's lists...
their entries are not automatically removed from the aliases file, and
removing them by hand is not a trivial task. We could just leave them in,
but *whenever a new course is the same as one that's already in the aliases
file, it will error out and crash the script that builds the new lists. *
*Is there any fix for this?* I would like to create the course lists for
spring semester, but I am feeling daunted by the task of doing all the
aliases part of it by hand.
