changing domains on Mailman implementation

Is there an efficient way to change the domain name that mailman is affiliated with? I have two mailing lists that were created for an organization before that organization had their own domain. At the time the organization was sure they did not want their own domain and would not be getting a domain. Since then, they have chosen to get a domain and set up a web site. I would like to move their mailing lists onto their domain. It looks like the process for this is: 1) get the list of subscribers 2) delete the mailing list from the one domain (losing the archives) 3) create the mailing list on the new domain 4) subscribe the list of subscribers This process doesn't seem too difficult, but I would prefer to keep the archives, if possible. Both domains are on the same server, running CentOS7 and PLESK 12.5, if that makes a difference. Thanks, Keith

non-subscribers getting through--email address in "Real Name"

On one of my lists I'm seeing some spam from non-subscribers getting through. It appears that the trick is to put a subscriber's address in the "real name" of the sender. E.g., this got through, without being held for moderation, on a list with generic_nonmember_action = discard (emails of the innocent obfuscated): *From:* "xxx(a)johnxxx.com <jgl(a)johngreenwaltlee.com>" <enrollment(a)ekonek.com> *Date:* July 18, 2018 at 5:27:24 PM CDT *To:* <listname(a)server.org <osg-l(a)cool.conservation-us.org>> *Subject:* *[OSG-l] No. PL-01-17923 AIC Objects Specialty Group Discussion* *Reply-To:* My List's Name <listname(a)server.org <osg-l(a)cool.conservation-us.org>> Account Summary: --------------------------- Invoice No: No. PL-01-17923 Billing Date: Jul 19, 2018 Due Date: Jul 22, 2018 Amount Due: 1,047.48 Download DOC: etc. (I'm avoiding sharing the links that follow). xxx(a)johnxxx.com IS a subscriber on the list. However enrollment(a)ekonek.com is not. Yet this message went straight through, as if it had been sent by a subscriber. I've looked at the archives of mailman-users and it looks like--from a very old discussion--that a) this cheap trick should not be sufficient to allow the message through b) the content of the message as delivered to the list may not reflect the exact contents/metadata of the message as it was sent. Still, I don't really know what else could be going on here, or how to investigate. Suggestions? Thanks! Matt

bounce notification to owner from non members?

Hi all, I receive about 8 bounce messages a day for one of my lists from people trying to post to it who aren't members. The list is set up as private so not sure how these spammers find it. I've been to the bounce page but can't work out how to stop these messages but allow bounce messages from members? What does mailman do with a POST?

I'm trying to submit a form or two from a program and I can't quite understand Mailman's form handling, this with Mailman 2.1.23. What I've done is a little program that does something simple: it first authenticates [and gets the appropriate cookies], then I GET the mass-removal page [to get its csrf_object. Then I do a simple POST with just three form fields: csrf_object=> <whatever it was in the GET of the page> unsubscribees => the email address, 'setmemberopts_btn => 'Submit Your Changes' The response I get back is the original page - no error and no success, just the mass-removal page again. It is what would happen if you clicked on the submit button without giving it anything to do I've also tried a similar POSTing with every field from the form included, and always the same: a 200 response and I get the mass-removal page back again. I'd look at the code, but I'm a perl guy -- never messed with python. What does Mailman do to when receiving a POST to decide if there's something to do or not? Change of subdomain

Hello, until recently I had my mailman web configuration in a directory in my www domain, like www.mydomain.de/mailman. Now I changed the structure to have an URL like lists.mydomain.de. I also changed the apache configuration and the /etc/mailman/mm_cfg.py file. This kind of works, I can access my admin panel fine. But some internal urls like the mailing list archive still refer to the old www url. What must I do to clean that up?

Mailman 2.1.X and HTTPS

Hi, I'm currently using 2.1.26. Recently I had LetsEncrypt add lines to my Apache configuration to redirect browsers from HTTP to HTTPS URLs. This morning I found that this doesn't seem to work well with Mailman database admin pages, I couldn't get Mailman to reject a held message until I commented out those Apache config lines. Is there a way to make Mailman work using HTTPS? My reason for the redirect is that I'd heard that browsers, in particular Chrome, are going to start warning about insecure sites. Does this mean if any URL begins with HTTP people will have to click through warnings, or is just the fact that HTTPS is available good enough, even if the user or link didn't specify HTTPS? Argh. Postfix/Mailman compatibility on Gentoo

<caerllewys(a)caerllewys.net>: Command died with status 2: "/usr/lib64/mailman/mail/mailman post caerllewys". Command output: Group mismatch error. Mailman expected the mail wrapper script to be executed as group "mailman", but the system's mail server executed the mail script as group "nobody". Try tweaking the mail server to run the script as group "mailman", or re-run configure, providing the command line option `--with-mail-gid=nobody'. I'd swear I fixed that *AT LEAST* once...... The easy solution: 1. In /etc/postfix/main.cf: mail_owner = postfix default_privs = mailman 2. Mailman 2.x to 3.1.x Migration

Hey All, I haven't read anything on gitlab about whether or not this has been finalized. Is there a migration process available? I also read about scripting it but unfortunately I can't find any resources on a way to do so. Can anyone provide me with a best-practices on how to migrate? Ryan

Mailman 2.1.29 Release

I am not so pleased to announce the release of Mailman 2.1.29. It turned out there was a bug in the security fix in 2.1.28 that broke the web admin and listinfo overview pages. This is fixed in Mailman 2.1.29. The patch referred to below has been corrected to fix this bug. There is also a patch attached to <https://bugs.launchpad.net/mailman/+bug/1783417> which applies to 2.1.28 to fix this issue. Python 2.6 is the minimum supported, but Python 2.7 is strongly recommended. Mailman 2.1.28 was a minor security fix release. It also has some i18n updates and a couple of bug fixes and adds the ability to edit list specific templates through the web admin UI in a supported language other than the list's default.
