Hi all, I'm running a mail server with Debian Lenny, MTA is Postfix and i will use postfix-to-mailma.py script to run list I would set up Mailman for running mailing list with same email prefix on different domains, obvious with different list names For example we have ml.domain1.com and ml.domain2.net, i would like to have LISTADDRESS LISTNAME tech(a)ml.domain1.com tech-ml.domain1.com tech(a)ml.domain.2.net tech-ml.domain2.net In this way i can have the same address on differente domains and Mailman (my version is 2.1.11) can distinguish between lists because the list name is different. The list name will be also used to access web interface, so we have http://ml.domain1.com/mailman/admin/tech-ml.domain1.com http://ml.domain2.net/mailman/admin/tech-ml.domain2.net Is possible to accomplish this task? Any idea?

Hide list address?

Hi, Is there any way to configure Mailman such that, for an announcement-only type list, when a message is sent to the list, the To: shows the member's address, rather than the list address? Some list software allows the ability to hide the list address itself, so that address is not advertised. I couldn't find any configuration specific to that.

Using cronjob to remove and add members to a mailing list

I want to be able to run a cronjob on my server that uses a php script to add new users and/or remove users from a mailing list. Not having any luck finding any simple examples. My thought is that the php script would get email addresses from a database (which I can do) and then feed them to a mailman command line to either add or remove a user. The cronjob is entered via Cpanel. Have several cronjobs that modify databases but have never tried something that would actually execute a unix command. Thanks, Pineyscripter

Hi, i`m trying to reject messages bigger then MAX_MESSAGE_SIZE. I configured my Hold.py was described bellow: replaced hold_for_approval(mlist, msg, msgdata, _ MessageTooBig(bodylen,_mlist.max_message_size)) with rej = MessageTooBig(bodylen, mlist.max_message_size) _ raise Errors.RejectMessage, rej.reason_notice_ The message was rejected, but the sender dont receive any notify about that. Hi, I am a newbie to Mailman and cpanel and I need some help, please. I have set up a mailing list for my tennis club (about 300 on list) and it seems to work ok BUT each recipient only sees the mailing list name rather than his own email name in the 'to' box. One of the recipients recently did a 'reply to all' and consequently sent his reply to the whole mailing list. I'm sure there must be a way to prevent this but I can't find it! David Elliott

Add "sender's name/email" to BODY of mail as header?

I want all mails sent to the list to come from the list's email address... But, in this case, if the user forgets to sign their name at the bottom of their mail body, effectively the mail to the list is anonymous...! Is there a way to add the user name (or email address) to the top of each mail so that the mails have the name of the sender, while the mail itself comes from the list address? I have looked high and low for an answer, but noone seems to have the solution. Thank you! Mal

Mailman CGI Error-Group mismatch error

Hi, I received the following error this morning. So I rerun configure again with the following command: ./configure --with-cgi-id=apache --prefix=/var/mailman. I'm still getting the same error. Is there any place that I can look for so that I can debug this problem better? Perhaps, looking at the config history file or something. Any other places that I can check the cause of this error? "Mailman CGI error!!! The Mailman CGI wrapper encountered a fatal error. This entry is being stored in your syslog: Group mismatch error. Mailman expected the CGI wrapper script to be executed as group "nobody", but the system's web server executed the CGI script as group "apache". Try tweaking the web server to run the script as group "nobody", or re-run configure, providing the command line option `--with-cgi-gid=apache'." Thanks Mary

Find a smtp server to send out emails

Hi, This problem is not caused by mailman, but I still want to give it a shot here. I'm hosting a mailing list on top of mailman. Emails are supposed to be sent out by AWS ses. However, ses requires that sender address must be verified, which leads to a problem that emails sent by subscribers to mailing list cannot be sent to other subcirbers, since their addresses are not verified. And it is impossible to verified every subscriber. Are there smtp service providers allowing unverified email address to send out emails, or do I have other solutions? Thanks. Leon

Installing Mailman on a Debian system with Apache 2.4.2, CGI error!

Hi, This is a weird one. I think of myself as knowing my way around Mailman pretty well for a user/admin/installer/upgrader. I'm upgrading to a Debian 9 system from CentOS 6.5. Debian's Apache configs took a bit of getting used to, but I actually like them better. It uses Apache 2.4.2. I wanted to install Mailman from source, since the latest version is 2.1.26, Debian has 2.1.23, and IIRC that's too old to have some screen reader optimizations I want. So I built, installed, all working well. I copied over the Mailman config from my CentOS system to use in Apache, making some changes so it'd work under 2.4.2. If I go to http://temphostname/mailman/listinfo/mailman for example, Apache says /usr/lib/mailman/cgi-bin/listinfo/mailman doesn't exist. If I just go to /mailman/listinfo I get an Elf binary thrown at me, rather than the page saying there are no advertised lists. If I do the same thing from the server using the Lynx web browser, I get the same binary thrown at me, with a page title, "Mailman CGI error!" It sounds to me like Apache 2.4.2 isn't seeing that /usr/lib/mailman/cgi-bin is, in fact, CGI scripts, and is trying to treat them like regular files. Debugging mass invitations using web page interface...

Dear Mailman Cognoscenti, I'm helping one of my list owners send out 5K plus invitations to students to subscribe to his mailing list. Our current configuration: Mailman v2.1.20 RHEL v5.11 Semdmail v8.13.8 Apache v2.2.3 Since this was the first time doing this, I suggested breaking the batch input into 3 groups, 50, 500, and the rest. The 50 went fine, as did the 500, but the largest batch gave him a generic web server error: > Internal Server Error > > The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was > unable to complete your request. > > Please contact the server administrator, root(a)conundrum.unh.edu and > inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might > have done that may have caused the error. > > More information about this error may be available in the server > error log. I wrote a script that removed folks already subscribed to his list and split the remaining subscribers up into 6 files with a thousand records each. I just tried uploading the 1st batch of 1K, with the following options: Subscribe these users now... (*) Invite Send welcome message... (*) No Send notifications... (*) No And entered a 7 line paragraph explaining the invitation. I ended up having the same error happen. Looking at the Mailman logs, I can't see any difference before or after my submission. User doesn't get added to mailinglist

Hi We have a problem since we updated from Mailman 2.1.27 -> 2.1.29 (FreeBSD). I have a couple of lists using mailman 2.1.20. I recently updated the web server software (apache 2) to redirect everything to HTTPS. I did something to break the approval process of messages, but can't find out where I've made the mistake. I've read, I think, all the available documentation for using HTTPS with mailman. I've looked at all the log files for both apache and mailman, error, accesses, smtp, etc and can't find any hint about what I've done wrong as nothing is showing up in any of the logfiles. When I use the admindb page for a list and click on the accept radio and then click on the Submit All Data button, nothing happens. I've run check_perms as root and supplied the -f to fix any issues to no effect. If I view the page source all the form actions include https://... So long story short, how can I find where the error is that is causing the messages to continue to be unapproved and languish as held messages? changing domains on Mailman implementation

Is there an efficient way to change the domain name that mailman is affiliated with? I have two mailing lists that were created for an organization before that organization had their own domain. At the time the organization was sure they did not want their own domain and would not be getting a domain. Since then, they have chosen to get a domain and set up a web site. I would like to move their mailing lists onto their domain. It looks like the process for this is: 1) get the list of subscribers 2) delete the mailing list from the one domain (losing the archives) 3) create the mailing list on the new domain 4) subscribe the list of subscribers This process doesn't seem too difficult, but I would prefer to keep the archives, if possible. Both domains are on the same server, running CentOS7 and PLESK 12.5, if that makes a difference. Thanks, Keith

Unexpected unsubscription confirmation emails

At least one member of our list has received an unexpected email from the list server requesting confirmation of unsubscription. It looks to me like someone has filled in this member's address on the unsubscription form on their behalf in an attempt to remove them from the list. I've gotten buried by 80 bounce messages, thanks to gmail's new policy [that was, apparently, put into effect yesterday]. The bounces say: <....(a)gmail.com>: host alt1.gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com[74.125.129.26] said: 421-4.7.0 This message does not have authentication information or fails to pass 421-4.7.0 authentication checks. Spoofed spam problem

Hello. I have a discussion group so all members can post to the group. Most spam is filtered out by Mailman. But I've just had a couple of spam messages get through using, I assume spoofing, a member's address. Spam spoofing a member's address is sometimes sent to the list but in years of running this list, I've had very few that get through instead of being held for moderation. For the time being I've set this address to be moderated. I'm not always able to deal with moderation queue promptly so is there something I can do to catch these messages before they get through? I'm not sure if I asked when a couple of spoofed messages made it through a year ago and can't find anything in the archive. If I did ask before I'm sorry for asking again. Thanks for your help. Question re. moving a mailing list

I have my original test mailing list "testlist(a)mischievous.us". I copied it to be "testlist(a)peacock.place" and then aliased "testlist" on mischievous.us to go to "testlist(a)peacock.place". This works fine. My "General Options" has "Munge From", so the From address always says "testlist(a)peacock.place", when peacock.place is sending out the messages. This works fine. My issue is that the mail sent out says: From: testlist(a)peacock.place To: testlist(a)mischievous.us Cc: <original sender email> such that when I do a Reply-all, I get a message addressed as: To: testlist(a)peacock.place Cc: testlist(a)mischievous.us I notice that I don't seem to receive any duplicate messages. Perhaps Mailman is taking care of that for me, which is great! I had expected that my configuration in /usr/local/mailman/Mailman/mm_cfg.py of: MTA = 'Postfix' OWNERS_CAN_ENABLE_PERSONALIZATION = Yes RCPT_BASE64_HEADER_NAME = 'X-My-Recip' DEFAULT_EMAIL_HOST = 'peacock.place' DEFAULT_URL_HOST = 'peacock.place' add_virtualhost('mischievous.us', 'peacock.place') add_virtualhost('peacock.place', 'peacock.place') add_virtualhost('www.peacock.place', 'peacock.place') would have maybe told it that "mischievous.us" is another way of sending to this same mailing list and thus it wouldn't include the CC, but maybe I'm missing something? /raj

Setting up SSL Virtualhost for Mailman

Hello all I have to set up SSL for our mailman instance and I am stuck on how the SSL Virtualhost for HTTPs should be set up. I know the FAQ on the list.org website explains all of the steps for setting up HTTPS with mailman, but I do not see anything that explains how to set up the actual virtual host and which options and directives should be in the virtual host..
