Mailman errors

Earlier this month I email this list with issues I've had approving/discard messages via the web interface (see below). After digging around I've found that I maybe experiencing some kind if config corruption in pck files under /var/lib/mailman/lists/mailman When looking through the smtp-failure log I noticed errors "Sender address rejected: Domain not found" and it appears something has or is appending the text "new-" to the beginning of the domain we use. Further investigation shows that "new-" is appended to the domain in the config.pck, config.pck.last & config.pck.safety files. I have no idea how this got into the files but it appears to me the source of problem. I have reviewed the configuration of mailman via the administrative web interface and it all appears correct (no arbitrary "new-" text) . This is not a new installation of mailman and has been in use for many years. This issue seemed to have started occurring in July of this year. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Mailman version 2.1.16 -- Search of *private* archives?

Is it possible to have a search (eg by keyword) feature available for private archives with Mailman version 2.1.16? how to test template customization

I'm trying to customize cronpass.txt. (I understand that it needs to go in templates/site/en/cronpass.txt.) I think I've got it basically figured out, but I'd like to test it before we get to the end of the month and a couple thousand possibly messed-up monthly password reminders go out. Is there a way to test it, e.g. sending a copy just to myself? I couldn't find anything on this point in the archives.

Editing the options page shown to you when you are not logged in

Dear all, I want to adapt the member options page when I am *not* logged in. For example: https://mail.python.org/mailman/options/mailman-users/debianflo%40gmx.at The 'Edit the public HTML pages and text files' option at the admin interface only contains a possibility to adapt the option page for members who are already logged in. How can I adapt the page I described first? Thank you for any help. Flo. PS: I am using 2.1.19

Acknowledging sender when moderated message is accepted

I administer a mailman (version 2.1.15) server (CentOS 7) which contain 40-50 lists (including umbrella lists). When a sender's email is held for moderation, we would like to acknowledge the sender when that post is "Accepted" by the moderator in a similar fashion as we do when the moderator "Rejects" a message (default message with ability to customize). This will avoid the user wondering if the email was sent out to the list. The acknowledge option gets us part of the way, but I could not find a way to acknowledge non-members who post to a list. It is common for a non-member to send legitimate email to our lists (e.g. faculty member sending to student lists). I believe there will also be an issue with receiving acknowledgements from one of the individual list member of an umbrella list since they are not treated as an ordinary users thus they cannot set the acknowledge option flag for that list. I have tried using the setting "Receive your own posts to the list?" set it to "Yes" and the server logs show an email is being sent, the email provider's duplicate suppression renders the user not actually seeing that email come into their inbox. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you, David

Finding list user in redacted FBL reports

Hi all! I have a list member with a comcast.net email address that is marking most every list message as spam. I have Personalization enabled, and have the subscriber's email address in the footer, but Comcast redacts the email address. Unfortunately, there are quite a few comcast.net users on this list, making this really difficult to find the offender. I've read through the Mailman Users archives and have seen others with this problem, and it seems some of you have come up with your own creative solutions, but no solutions have been posted, hence my request here. Do any of you have any ideas for me to identify this serial 'mark-as-spammer'? Could I hack something together temporarily that would put maybe the first few characters of their email in the footer? (so that Comcast won't sense it as an email and won't redact it?) Other ideas? Thank you in advance! - Scott

no bounce message with bad address

sometimes I load an invalid address (invalid name but valid domain) like xyz(a)whidbey.com; whidbey.com is ok but there is no xyz with Mailman 2.1.26 at site5.com and 2.1.29 at mailmanlists.net I do not receive a bounce message is this a Mailman issue, host issue, domain issue? or? thanks

Need assistance configuring Mailman version 2.1.15 on RHEL7

We installed Mailman version 2.1.15 on RHEL7 using yum. We don't want mailing lists' email addresses with the same domain as the server has. For example: server is example1.fdu.edu . We would like to have email addresses of the mailing lists to end with @fdu.edu so that someone sends email to list1(a)fdu.edu and the subscribers of the the mailing list list1 will receive it.
