Using cronjob to remove and add members to a mailing list

I want to be able to run a cronjob on my server that uses a php script to add new users and/or remove users from a mailing list. Not having any luck finding any simple examples. My thought is that the php script would get email addresses from a database (which I can do) and then feed them to a mailman command line to either add or remove a user. The cronjob is entered via Cpanel. Have several cronjobs that modify databases but have never tried something that would actually execute a unix command. Thanks, Pineyscripter

Problem with outlook.com

Hello list. For some reason none of hotmail or outlook users don't receive any of our newsletter. Finally all of them auto unsubscribe. The following is an error received form protection.outlook.com: Remote Server returned '550 5.6.0 CAT.InvalidContent.Exception: ExchangeDataException, Decoding of header Subject failed+ADs- raw value: +AFs-Ps+AF0- +AD0-?iso8859-7?b?wer98fnz5yDF8OX05enh6t7yIOXq5N7r+-fPn8iDz9Oft?+AD0-; cannot handle content of message That happened since September 10th this year. Before, all received without problem. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance. Nikos.

Weekly and month digests

Hi, I've encountered a puzzle where weekly digests are not being sent, and I'm trying to understand how periodic digests work. Daily digests and running the command below (as root) seems to work okay. /usr/bin/python /var/lib/mailman/cron/senddigests -l <LISTNAME> Looking at Mailman's cron for digests I see the command for daily digests: cat /var/lib/mailman/cron/crontab.in ... # Noon, mail digests for lists that do periodic as well as threshhold delivery. 0 12 * * * /usr/bin/python -S /var/lib/mailman/cron/senddigests ... All good there. For weekly and monthly digests to be sent should I add additional lines to Mailman's "crontab.in" (or even the system's crontab)? For example: # 3:00 PM every Friday 0 15 * * 5 /usr/bin/python -S /var/lib/mailman/cron/senddigests # 9:00 AM first day of each month 0 9 1 * * /usr/bin/python -S /var/lib/mailman/cron/senddigests Or does the "senddigests" script handle weekly and monthly digests by retrieving info from somewhere? And if so, where does Mailman get the information as to which digests should be sent weekly or monthly? And also if so, what day of the week/month should it be sending by default for those digests? On an imported lists, I can send a mail to the list, it is archived BUT not relayed to the members.

Hello, Thanks for all the work on mailman3, wich I've installed to replace mailman2. On the new installation, I can create a new list, add members, send an recieve messages and they are properly archived and I'm happy because everything seems to be working as expected. But… With a list I created to importe the members and the archives, I have a problem. I followed this https://docs.mailman3.org/en/latest/migration.html to do the import. The result is that everything seems to be good except that, if I send a message, it is not relayed to the members. I tried by sending from my mail client and dirrecty from the web interface, the result is the same. The mail is received and archived and in the /var/log/mailman3/web/mailman-web.log I see a lot of « loops » with this kind of content : … [pid: 32617|app: -1|req: -1/57] ::1 () {38 vars in 782 bytes} [Tue Apr 26 15:25:30 2022] GET /hyperkitty/api/mailman/urls?mlist=THE-LIST%40SUB.DOMAIN.EXT.be&msgid=e7eab1aa-b592-9b6b-5912-0a1004ba4e10%40OTHERDOMAIN.EXT&key=bo44goajulr n0fa2bpt8zk2cxbaemlbq => generated 21 bytes in 0 msecs (HTTP/1.1 500) 2 headers in 83 bytes (0 switches on core 1) … To stop those « loops » and the logfile growing, I have to stop the mailman3 service and restart it. I have compared (based on the web interface) the setting of the « new list » and the « imported list », I found some small differences and even if I set the same settings, the result is the same. How do I send an email to all list admins? How to delete large numbers of held messages

We had a mail loop on one of our lists and ended up with over 51k messages in pending (held due to post not form a list member) Trying to delete them from the web UI will take forever, as the largest pagination you can view is 200 at a time. Tried to delete them from the Python interactive shell, but it looks like the API times out after a while. Is there another way to delete all these unwanted held posts? Hi, i`m trying to reject messages bigger then MAX_MESSAGE_SIZE. I configured my Hold.py was described bellow: replaced hold_for_approval(mlist, msg, msgdata, _ MessageTooBig(bodylen,_mlist.max_message_size)) with rej = MessageTooBig(bodylen, mlist.max_message_size) _ raise Errors.RejectMessage, rej.reason_notice_ The message was rejected, but the sender dont receive any notify about that. Applying contradicting posting permissions at the same time

Hello, I want to setup a mailing list with following properties: All emails with explicit non-members with moderation option “Default Processing” are distrubuted to the mailing list. Emails from members are rejected. As example m(a)example.org is a member, and n(a)example.org is a non-member with Default processing moderation. An email From: m(a)example.org Sender: n(a)example.org shall be distributed, because n(a)example.org is а non-member, who can post. In my configuration however, the email is rejected, because m(a)example.org is a member and members may not post. Is it possible to configure a MM3 mailing list, which accepts the above email, but would reject it, if the Sender: header is missing? Greetings Дилян

The Hotmail complaint saga continues

Hi, Last week I wrote this list about a situation where I'd received an Email from staff(a)hotmail.com with the subject, "complaint about message from MYI.PAD.DRE.SS." Then later I received a second such message, identified both complainants as the same person, let her know she'd be put on No Mail if she did it again, and received a response from her saying she's never marked one of my messages as spam or junk. The other night I received a third such complaint, duly put her on No Mail, and sent her an Email about it. At that point, I was pretty sure these complaints were being generated by some automated process, since they always came in within two to four minutes of the original messages going out. However, this theory was somewhat squashed when she supposedly complained about the very message telling her that due to complaints she was on No Mail…then responded, indicating she has COVID-19 and is putting off everything not critical until later. I sent that message yesterday morning, and the complaint came in this evening, with her response coming about twenty minutes later. This makes me think she's doing something to cause a complaint to be generated, and doesn't realize she's doing it. My questions are as follows: 1. Is Linode, my VPS provider, also receiving these complaints? If so, I'm surprised they haven't at least sent me a notice telling me about them. 2. Does anyone know if having received these complaints might cause Microsoft to be more likely to add my IP to their infamous block list? If they do, I'm going to be in a bad position, because they'd be well within their rights to say, "You've received four complaints within the last three weeks, so no, we won't mitigate anything for you. Get your Email sending practices in order, then maybe someday we'll talk." 3. I haven't ever received such complaints before this situation started on March 24. Is Microsoft noted for somehow generating spurious complaints like this? If so, is that the reason I'm not getting hounded about it from Linode, the "Little Boy who Cried Wolf" situation?
