Hi. I'm a new member of this group but have been running an email list with Mailman for a long time. I am now setting a list up again and want to give a "look and feel" to the list which has more branding of my user group as a whole, and less of a Mailman-feel. I seem to remember that besides editing the public HTML pages, it is possible to edit the text files which Mailman automatically sends out for certain needs (such as 'approve.txt', 'adminsubscribeack.txt', 'invite.txt', and so on). A. Is this still the case? B. If so, where can I find them? (in case they've changed from the ones I have from long ago). C. Where do they need putting, so that Mailman can use them again? It's important that I should tell you that Mailman on my webhosts servers is a "server-wide" installation, and I don't get to edit anything which other clients to their servers need. This would be only for my own use, and as such I need to know where these files go in my own webspace, and how to get Mailman to use them instead of the default ones. I should also say that I have done this before, so unless the facility to do this has been ditched in recent years, I *should* still be able to do it ! Does Mailman perhaps look for these files somewhere in my webspace (which I have to give a specific name), and if it doesn't find them it goes on to find its default versions of these files? Running two list with same email prefix

Hi all, I'm running a mail server with Debian Lenny, MTA is Postfix and i will use postfix-to-mailma.py script to run list I would set up Mailman for running mailing list with same email prefix on different domains, obvious with different list names For example we have ml.domain1.com and ml.domain2.net, i would like to have LISTADDRESS LISTNAME tech(a)ml.domain1.com tech-ml.domain1.com tech(a)ml.domain.2.net tech-ml.domain2.net In this way i can have the same address on differente domains and Mailman (my version is 2.1.11) can distinguish between lists because the list name is different. The list name will be also used to access web interface, so we have http://ml.domain1.com/mailman/admin/tech-ml.domain1.com http://ml.domain2.net/mailman/admin/tech-ml.domain2.net Is possible to accomplish this task? Any idea?

Hide list address?

Hi, Is there any way to configure Mailman such that, for an announcement-only type list, when a message is sent to the list, the To: shows the member's address, rather than the list address? Some list software allows the ability to hide the list address itself, so that address is not advertised. I couldn't find any configuration specific to that.

Hevy resource footprint forces backdrop to mailman 2.1

Greetings, after many years of smoothly running a mailman2 instance I had to migrate my virtual server to a new provider. There I found, that mailman2 was no longer supported and tried to migrate to mailman3 .. with much pain and no success. Mailman3 keeps crashing my v-server and swallows almost every mail sent to any of the migrated lists. So I wanted to switch back to mailman 2.1.39 by installing from the source package and found that this also fails due to missing python2 support. How to solve this? Thank you very much

Greetings all - My current build is running Mailman version: 2.1.20, on a long-in-the-tooth Scientific Linux release 7.9 (Nitrogen), with sendmail I'd like to go RHEL9, and Mailman 3.3.8 (Tom Sawyer), with postfix, on a new parallel VM - plan is to build a parallel server, same hostname, different IP, migrate all data/archives and billing info (we have that scripted), then do a dns change to point to the new IP after testing. Are there any means of scripted migration from old to new? Can I go from 2.1.20 direct to 3.3.8 - or do I need to go to 2.1.39 as an intermediate first? It's a service we provide, and we like to keep the our level of interaction to a minimum, so 2.1.20 was the first built "I" did back when RHEL7/SL7 was in it's early days. Going latest would fill that mold for us for a while. I'm currently looking at the wiki.list.org, but am having troubles locating Mailman3. version Site Admin doc - they seem to be v2.1 - I could be missing them. New Installation of MM3 is not archiving

Greetings, I finally completed installation of Mailman 3 following the instructions here: https://docs.mailman3.org/en/latest/install/virtualenv.html#initial-configu… I got a lot of support from this mailing-list too and I am mighty grateful for that. My new MM3 instance does not seem to be archiving. List subscribers are currently sending and receiving mails on their subscribed lists. However, none of the correspondence is showing up at https://mailing-list-site.tld/archives/. That page shows a listing of the active mailing-lists with '0 participants' and '0 discussions'. Whereas, those lists contain mails. How do I troubleshoot this?

Question: If the list name and a member address are known, can foreign mails be channeled into the list?

Hello to the round. Unfortunately I could not find a better place for my questions, nor did I find any answers within the docs or by Google. So here it is. The questions refer to Mailman 2.1.23. If I know the address of a list member and the address of the mailing list, I seem to be allowed to write in the list in his place. Is this correct? It seems to me that this is possible in at least two ways with the lists I am responsible for, and I don't like that: 1)--- First, I can fake the sender address. If the original sender address and mail with the forgery are sent from the same domain, then this is not prevented by the MTA (SPF/DKIM check), is it? With freemailers like gmail, web.de, gmx etc. this doesn't seem so impossible to me (i.e. that listmember and bad guy write from the same domain). 2)--- Second, even more strange to me: If I write to the mailing list from a valid address (which is NOT a member of the mailing list), and specify a "return-to" in the header with a listmember's address, then that gets waved through to my mailing list as well. My mailman lists here seem to ignore the "From" address completely then. In this case, it doesn't even matter which domain the bad guy writes from, as long as the return address stands up to the usual checks (SPF/DKIM/DMARC). Have I understood this correctly? And if this is as described, how can I prevent this? Background: I have inherited a larger Sendmail server and several dozen Mailman lists. Unfortunately, migration to Mailman3 is not an option (at least in the foreseeable future). So I have to live with the given - and annoy others with stupid questions from time to time. Couple of questions. 1. Should we be sending to everyone using blast(a)onyxma.com or blast(a)lists.onyxma.com 2. When a person sends, even though they are in the "list", they do not get a copy in their inbox. Is there a setting we can change so the sender gets a copy too if they are in the full list? I know they have what is in the sent box, but we'd like a sender to get a copy as well in their inbox since they are on the list. 3. Occasionally when we send to the blast everyone does not get the notice. It's rare that it happens, but it does. When it happens only a handful of people don't get it (not in their spam/junk either). Constant Mailman error messages

I have a hosting client using MailMan with about 10,000 subscribers. He sends mail only about once or twice a year and it is an announcement only list, no discussion, he is the only one who posts. Recently he posted and now I am getting constantly flooded with the following message. I have killed the mailman running processes and rebooted the server. The error message continue.
