My user is getting this error when they try to enter any of the name-augmented mass subscription formats in the guide: https://wiki.list.org/DOC/How%20can%20I%20Mass%20Subscribe%20a%20list%20wit… I've tried other formats to no avail. I can enter plain email addresses with no difficulties. I've poked around the archives and can find nothing relevant, but perhaps I'm not looking in the right way/place. I've also updated mailman, but this seems like something our Linux/cPanel system is interfering with. I welcome and appreciate any thoughts or suggestions. Thanks, Jim

Text encoding problems

Hi all Mailman 2.2.0 on cPanel In the last few days, several messages (not all!) showed problems with their text encodings. This means, messages containing non-standard characters, like ä, ö, ü, etc. do not arrive properly at the subscriber’s side. Instead of "ä", they show "=C3=A4", for example. And at the line end, a single "=". The headers usually contain Content-Type: text/plain; charset="utf-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64 which should be correct. When I look at the "raw source" of such messages, I see a block of base64-encoded text. I can copy this text block and insert it in a base64-"decoder", such as <https://www.base64decode.org/>, I see the same effect as in the mail program. Yesterday, I answered to such a message. And my message arrived at the subscriber’s end as base64-encoded text, it was not decoded by the recipients’ mail program, although its header contained the same indications as above (utf-8, base64). I checked with several mail programs; all of them just showed the base64-encoded block in the mail body. Does anybody have a solution? Did cPanel change something on its Mailman-part? Did cPanel "update" Mailman in the last few days (our provider says that such updates are automatic and he doesn’t know if there was one)? Most of the subscribers use Mail from Apple in various versions, but there are also some with Thunderbird, Postbox, GyazMail, Outlook (Mac), etc. Please ask if you need more info - I’ll try to answer them. What happened to my list posting?

Hello, all, I just tried to make a posting to two lists that I'm the administrator of. The postings should have looked like this: ============================ For your information, and please publicize: FREE ON-LINE AMATEUR RADIO OPERATING CLASS A free, weekly, 3-hour... ============================ Instead, they were resent and appeared like this: ============================ For your information, and please publicize:=0D=0A=C2=A0=0D=0AFREE ON- LINE= AMATEUR RADIO OPERATING CLASS=0D=0A=C2=A0=0D=0AA free, weekly, 3-hour Am= ============================ What happened, and how can I make sure it never happens again? I suspect that it has something to do with HTML formatted email. I'm not sure if I sent it to the lists as an HTML formatted email, or a plain text email. I received it as an HTML email, but my email client is set up to send plain-text by default. In my Sent folder, it looks like plain text. '=0D=0A' looks like ASCII codes for Windows CR/LF. Is there a setting in Mailman that can prevent this from happening? Thanks for any insights into this problem, and any suggestions or advice you have for me. -Kevin My setup: Linux Ubuntu 24.04 running Evolution 3.52.3 email client. Disabling the version disclosure.

Dear All, Myself Ninad. I recently installed Mailman3. I am new to MM3. As per my organization's policy, I need to turn off the version disclosure of Mailman Core, Postorius, and Hyperkitty. Specifically shown in the footer. Please let me know if there are any settings that I can set. I don't want to change any html code for the same. Please guide me in this regard. Thanking you, Ninad.

Month of March archives webpage has no messages showing

I realize this may be a CPanel issue, but perhaps someone familiar with that can help out. The web page for the list archives says 60 messages but none are visible. The messages are in the list directory. The unusual thing for this month is the "Starting: None". The other months previous all have the start date of the beginning of that particular month. The shared server I'm hosted on is using UTC time of the server location, not my location. So although it is March 10 here now as I write this, it is showing March 11 tomorrow morning. I don't know if I'm supposed to change it to my location or leave it.. has been an issue particularly before. So I'm inclined to leave it. mailman won't start - no Defaults module

I'm on a shared server with mailman v2 and when I logged in, it the WHM interface said there was an update - so I clicked the update button that was presented and it updated CPanel. Now the service mailman is not starting. The error is not finding the module "Defaults" called out on line 49 of this file: /usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/mailman/Mailman/mm_cfg.py There is a Defaults.py in that same directory.. but I don't know if that is what it wants. I have opened a trouble ticket but while I wait, maybe someone here has a quick answer. Here is the error I'm seeing: Service Error (XID 75wg2f) The “mailman” service failed to start. List URL problem

Our site (which I call below ourdomain.com) has some 400 lists. mm_cfg.py has these definitions: DEFAULT_EMAIL_HOST = 'ourdomain.net' DEFAULT_URL_HOST = 'lists.ourdomain.net' All other lists behave as they should, but one of our listownes reported a strange URL change when accessing held messages. instead of https://lists.ourdomain.net/cgi-bin/mailman/admindb/listname?msgid=1 the mailman interface gives https://ourdomain.net/cgi-bin/mailman/admindb/listname?msgid=1 Also the list archive seems to have lost the "lists" part of the URL. After trying to refresh the configuration of this list, the problem persists. How to fix this? - Eva

Confusing Bounces from Gmail

Hello, I manage a few public Mailman 2 mailing lists. A contributor to one of the lists was recently removed because of bounces, and they reached out to us to understand why. * This poster’s email domain is gmail.com. For this thread, we’ll say it’s xxxxx(a)gmail.com. * I found the relevant DSNs that the Mailman bounce processor received. * In all cases, the DSNs were from mailer-daemon(a)googlemail.com * All DSNs had this as the reason: Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently: xxxxx(a)gmail.com Technical details of permanent failure: 554.5.7.1 The user or domain that you are sending to (or from) has a policy that 554.5.7.1 prohibited the mail that you sent. Please contact your domain 554.5.7.1 administrator for further details. For more information, please visit 554.5.7.1 http://support.google.com/a/answer/172179 My initial read of the DSN was simply that some policy that xxxxx(a)gmail.com had set up on his Gmail account was rejecting copies of their own emails sent to the list, but I looked a little closer at the original headers in the DSNs. * In all cases, the Delivered-To in the original headers section of the DSN was to a different email address. For this thread, we’ll say it’s foo(a)bar.com, where bar.com’s MX records are aspmx.l.google.com and the usual alts. Would this mean that there’s some policy set by the bar.com admins in Google Apps rejecting xxxxx(a)gmail.xn--coms-x96a email? If that’s the case, shouldn’t the DSN say delivery to foo(a)bar.com failed permanently instead, since that’s the recipient? Or is Google ignoring the “delivery to the following recipient” part of the message and putting the sender’s email there to blame them for the delivery failure? (The first line of the 554.5.7.1 explanation suggests that it might be.) As a list admin, it feels wrong to ding (and eventually auto-unsub) xxxxx(a)gmail.com because foo(a)bar.com sets some arbitrary policy. Is there anything that can be done in Mailman 2 to detect and ignore these cases or have the bounce count against foo(a)bar.com? Does Mailman 3 handle these cases any differently? Thank you, Pete
