I think that it should.
I'm talking about bypassing the local MTA all together. Pipe fetcmail's STDOUT to a wrapper script to extract the command and mailing list before piping it into the mailman executable with said command and mailing list. Then have Mailman act as an SMTP client directly to an external MTA. No local MTA period.
