yep.. i have actually ran into this same problem. but for some strange reason, i had a user send email from another linux box, cent@uix.com, and when it came through my server, the Sender field was changed to cent@crackpipe.txraves.org which #1 is not a valid email account and #2 is not sub'd to the list and hence rejected. he sent another test email from his machine to an imail server running on NT 4.0. when i pop'd that the Sender field was just 'cent' so i'm not sure if its mailman or something else on my system that is modifying the Sender field... *shrug*
at any rate it looks as if Sender isn't such a good field to be using.

I have a closed list but for some *subscribed* users, all posts must be approved by me (error Only subscribed users may post to the list). (See Bug 126 in the jitterbug DB). Can you please have a look ASAP because many valid users get these mails back ?
This seems to be related to having several aliases for a machine.
:-/ It gets more and more strange... when I set "Restrict posting privilege to list members?" and "Must posts be approved by an administrator?" to NO, then every post is held for approval !?!?!
Ok, finally. After reading the mail archive and the FAQs (why is the FAQ in the package different from the FAQ on the WWW pages ???), I found why many posts are held for approval: Mailman doesn't use the
From or From: header lines but Sender: and Sender: is usually wrong. How do I have to change mailman that Sender: is ignored and "From " is used instead ?
Here is a header for which mailman fails:
From adam.chodorowski@bigfoot.com Wed Sep 22 14:39:50 1999 Received: from mailbox.sbbs2.net ([212.112.0.4] helo=mailbox.2.sbbs.se) by sebigbos.hepe.com with esmtp (Exim 3.03 #1 (Debian)) id 11TlgR-0005Zf-00 for <aros-dev@sebigbos.hepe.com>; Wed, 22 Sep 1999 14:39:50 +0200 Received: from bigfoot.com (z16-4-199.sbbs2.net [212.112.4.199]) by mailbox.2.sbbs.se with SMTP (Microsoft Exchange Internet Mail Service Version 5.5.2448.0) id SQJ0MZVB; Wed, 22 Sep 1999 14:43:19 +0200 Sender: adam Message-ID: <37E8D000.D516137D@bigfoot.com> Date: Wed, 22 Sep 1999 14:48:00 +0200 From: Adam Chodorowski <adam.chodorowski@bigfoot.com> X-Mailer: Mozilla 4.6 [en] (X11; I; Linux 2.2.9-19mdk i586) X-Accept-Language: sv, en MIME-Version: 1.0 To: aros-dev@sebigbos.hepe.com Subject: Re: [AROS-Dev] CVS down? When this message is sent to the list, I get a mail that this is held for approval because "adam" is not subscribed. Adding "adam" to the list of addresses which can always post doesn't work.
