Is there a way to retrieve a list of the e-mail addresses stored in a Mailman list?

Yes. You can do this via the web, from the bottom of the listinfo page (though it might be nice if this was also available from the admin section, especially for lists where only the list admin can view the membership list).
You can also do this via email using the who command.
