When I login to the administrative mode for a mailing list and click on "tend to pendingadministrative requests", after I click the submit changes button, I'm at a dead-end type screen. Shouldn't this screen have the standard set of links for Configuration Categories and Other Administrative Tasks? I tend to click the back button twice to return to where I want to be.
You're not at a dead-end page. Follow the link at the bottom that takes you back to the administrative page.
However there is no link back to the /admin or /listinfo pages, which is unfortunate.

Hrm, maybe it's just me then, but after I'm done with whatever administrative tasks needed to be done (/mailman/admindb/<list>), I get a page back that looks like this:
Database Updated...
Administrative requests for mailing list: <list>
There are no pending requests.
<list> list run by ashley@pcraft.com <list> administrative interface (requires authorization)
That last line is a link back to /admin/<list> - is that not what you want?
