It is spam, and the OLD list is open to all posters, but the new list is not, so it needs to be approved or deleted. You can either open the new list to all posters, or leave it like it is where you would need to approve (moderate) posts from non-members, so you can reject spam.

You can change the list password to something you can remember easily on the passwords page.
