If you go to the administrative interface of your list and click on General Options you will find a bunch of things to turn off.
If you are using the Auto-Responder you may have to turn things off there, too.

And you may wish to turn off the Bounce processing notifications, and you probably want to not install Mailman's crontab or at least not run checkdbs, disabled, mailpasswds and maybe senddigests.
