
Is there any sort of add-on or companion program that would allow mailman users an easy way to share files without actually mailing them? (Or, better yet, strip them out of emails and store them for download off the web).

You should search the archives. This subject has come up several
times before.
The short answer is no. The long answer is quite a bit more
complex, and for many sites it may be completely impossible to implement this kind of functionality, even if the feature were technically available within Mailman.
If you want that sort of thing, you should use a file sharing P2P
network, or a WebDAV server, etc....

It looks like the closest you can get with Mailman (at this
stage) is found in the patch at http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=904850&group_id=103&atid=300103.
