Does mailman work well for large lists?

Good day, Looking for a solution to have about 50-200 lists for subscribers. Any good examples of mailman being used for 50+ lists you can share for me to see? Trying to see the feasibility of implementing a solution in next 90 days.
Would like to see a working one, where a user would go to a site, and pick a list to subscribe.
Is mailman easy to setup and maintain?
Windows or Linux server recommended?
Thank you. David.

Good day,
Hi,
I don't think the number of lists is as important as the number of subscribers on each list.
I have seen many installations of Mailman (v2.x) that have had lots of lists.
I believe some of the Mailman lists that I'm subscribed to have hundreds of subscribers.

Sorry, I don't know of anything off hand.

I've found that Mailman 2.x is quite easy to set up and maintain. Though, I don't think Mailman 2.x is good for a greenfield deployment. I don't have any experience with Mailman 3.x. Though I have heard that 3.x has different requirements than 2.x, some of them non-trivial.

My vote is for Linux (or another Unix varient).
Thank you.
You're welcome.

IIRC, there are/were some MM2 lists of over 100k subscribers. Key is to supply enough resources (proc & memory, bonus for fast storage).

I prefer FreeBSD for server work, but yes, definitely not windows.

See <https://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/> for Mailman 2 supported lists. This list used to be one of those before it migrated to Mailman 3 <https://mail.python.org/mailman3/> (for support of the list - the list is still about Mailman 2).

Definitely Linux or some other *nix OS over Windows. Many Linux distros have drop in Mailman 2.1 packages, but both Mailman 2.1 and Python 2 upon which it depends are end of life, although many if not most sites are still using it.
Mailman 3 is significantly more difficult to install, although there is a fairly functional, albeit out of date, package for Debian/Ubuntu.

Another 75 hidden lists. It takes me a couple hours a day, in part because I at least look at each message. Most time filled up with helping people subscribe, unsubscribe, get lists of members for list moderators etc. People don't know how to use their tools.
