I was curious as to what the column "ack" was for under the
Membership Management section. I've checked the Administrator
Manual, but that section is empty, along with several other sections.
What does that field mean and what's the difference between checked
and unchecked users?

It reflects the "Receive acknowledgement mail when you send mail to
the list?" line from the user prefs page. If checked, the sender gets:
"Your message entitled
<subject of your message>
was successfully received by the <listname> mailing list."
