Does mailman ever have config.db and config.db.last open at the same time? Maybe that is a bad idea, in that case. I recently had a machine with mailman crash, and when it came up again fsck informed me that config.db *and* config.db.last for one list were garbage, and removed them for me, so I had to go to backup files to get a working config file.
