restrict_pst_to_members in mail-news GW side effects

The formentioned settings (that is setting 'restrict_post_to_members' in a mail-news gateway list) has a very undesirable effect:
not only messages sent by non-members to the list address gets a message that alerts he's been trying to post to a list without being member of it.
Everyone that post to the newsgroup by his on way (not via the list address) gets that message too!
Is this a bug or is there a particular combinantion of settings I am missing for this?
Thanks
Giancarlo

That is correct unless they are list members. Those that prefer to use USENET news I tell to sign up and set their settings to 'nomail'.

Well if they are not a list member, it will bounce. That's how you configured it.
