Hi Everyone, CFP for Devsprints is now open! If you are a contributor or have been involved in maintenance of any Open source project, please come forward and add a project. This project can be any interesting Open source project which is based on Python. Ideally, you should have a history with the project through previous code commits. Your responsibility will be to help your team set up their development environment, list out beginner friendly bugs, and guide them on any problems they face during the event. Present a Poster at PyCon India

Hi Everyone, As announced earlier, the posters are yet another way of participating in PyCon India 2019, which is happening on Oct 12-15, at Chennai. There are two different poster types: 1. Technical Posters - for presenting projects and insights on various topics 2. Community Posters - for user groups / meetup groups to promote their work Here are few good reasons to present a poster: 1. Posters offer the opportunity to *engage with attendees* interested in the same subject and application as yourself. You might strike up a conversation with someone about your poster that may lead to future collaborations or even a job offer! 2. If you are new to conferences, or if you are intimidated about doing a talk in front of huge audience, posters are for you. Posters are a *great way to test the waters*, and can be stepping stone for your next talk at a conference. 3. The *entire conference attendees is available* during the poster session, as there are no other tracks scheduled in parallel. This makes it better than the talk sessions, where there are multiple concurrent tracks, and attendees can only attend one of them. 4. A poster presentation is a good way to disseminate your work, particularly if your *topic or project falls within a narrow field of specialization*. It also gives you the opportunity to actively engage with others during the conference in a way that networking alone does not, since by its very nature the poster defines the topic of conversation. 5. Another good reason to present a poster is that you can expect to receive compliments on your work and critiques that can help you in the future. An insightful, *impartial discussion of your work by a peer* can often provide ideas for improving your work downstream. In short, poster presentations provide value, both for attendees who discuss your poster content with you, and for yourself because of the opportunities highlighted above. Hello Samiya, Thank you for your interest in inviting PyDelhi to IIIT's Techfest ESYA, PyDelhi was a community partner last year in the tech-fest. The experience of our fellow members and us was below par and several concerns have been raised regarding this year's iteration. This email serves as an official transcript of the Telegram chat that we had. We like this to be the official response of the community as well as continuing the discussion with other members who are subscribed to the mailing list if they like to add more to it. To answer your question, > let us know if <PyDelhi> would be interested in being a part of it. No, PyDelhi wouldn't be a part of this year's fest. Concerns/Feedbacks/Observations from last year 1. (Edited) Vipul Gupta mentions his experience of the hackathon as one of his worst "My team and I participated in the hackathon along with members of several other sister communities. And long story short, we won the hackathon. After the event, the ESYA team took about 5 months to release the prizes that were promised, after hundreds of emails from all teams and a significant decrease in cash prize that was stated." I would also like to add that this thread was concluded by the ESYA Team by finally releasing the prizes to the 3 winning teams, by deducting 2000 rupees from it for reasons that I like to term as extremely foolish and deceiving. 2. Vipul Gupta also adds on about the experience at the community event that was held last year "- - I was there at the Community event as well in ESYA 2018, the event started 2 hours late, none or very poor management of the entire event, the team wasn't even interested in hosting the event. The entire plan was actually made by us and not ESYA mgmt. just a week from the actual date. @cocoa1231 @rajudev @realslimshanky and @hellozee can add more to that." 3. To the OP's message, Satyakaam observed that "Looking at the OP's messaging and communications so far he looks inexperienced in dealing with community , confused and does not know how to ask for things 😊With the kind of conversations so far from OP looks like you have set the expectations and they are expecting the same this year as well. " 4. Not even ours but we have been seeing a trend of IIIT Delhi of canceling community meetups at the last moment showing disregard and lack of action as the community organizers add "IIIT Delhi itself has canceled our and other communities meetups, just a day before when they were supposed to happen. These are not just one event, it has become a trend when it comes to IIIT Delhi." Community's decision PyDelhi took a decision to have an anonymous poll to let the community decide the action that needs to be taken as we go ahead. Question: Should PyDelhi be a community partner at this year's IIIT's Techfest ESYA? Out of 53 votes, we had 49% as No, 28% as yes and 23% as ones who would need more information. Replies Aman, OP for the event responded that he would be addressing the issues soon enough. Conclusion and action that needs to be taken - Akshay suggested "IIITD management has been constantly saying, "no" to any attempts by PyDelhi to hold a meetup in that organization. Let's put it this way, personally due to the track record of ESYA and IIITD. I do not think it makes any sense for PyDelhi to grace their event, this would degrade PyDelhi's Brand. Proposal for next Meetup for PyDelhi ------------------------------------------ (This is a proposal feel free to add to it) We will finalize based on inputs within next few days. We would love to get a expert talk; guide us through this:: We invite any experts on the subject to join in . If you know any expert on the subject around you then please contact them to be guide us through this meet up. Topic of meetup: Implementing Quantum Randum Number Generators Possible date for meetup: 26th July Possible venue: South Campus Bamboo hut, Propose more venues here. This will be a discussion and collaborative meetup to try and implement a algorithm to generate Quantum randum numbers. - What is QRNG a explanation - How do we test if a number is quantum random or not? Implementation ============ - Implementing the tests first. - Checking/testing existing Random number generators in existing languages and running numbers generated through them in this test. - Implementing our Quantum Random number generator Algorithm/s. - Running numbers from QRNG through the test to check if the numbers are Quantum Random or not! Prizes - First person/team, to implement the test correctly get's a/1 PyCon India 2017 Travel Bag from Wild Craft. (Max 3 per team) - First person/team to get their random numbers consistently passing through the test suit will get 1 Travel bags + 1 Pen Drive + 1 T-shirt each. Regarding tech talk

Greetings! IIIT Delhi is holding its annual tech fest, Esya on 23rd and 24th August 2019. As part of Esya, we are organising an Open Source Meetup and we are excited to invite <PyDelhi> to be part of the same. Our goal is to bring together the members of various open source communities to give talks that are on a wide range of subjects, to foster learning, inspiration – and promote the open source culture. The meetup will be a full-day event and will be held in one of the seminar halls in our college. The entry to the meetup would be free for all. The basic structure of the meetup would consist of talks by all the participating communities followed by sessions about opportunities for students like GSoC, Outreachy, among other internships. We will put a call for proposals for talks among the participating organisations. The proposals would be reviewed by a group of admins of these organisations and the chosen ones would be presented on the day of the meetup. The meetup is tentatively scheduled for 24th August 2019.
