Attempting to wrap a Fortran-77 subroutine using f2py but I haven't been able to understand what is causing the error

I'm attempting to wrap a Fortran-77 source member using f2py. I'm running he Anaconda distribution for Python 3.7.6 on a Mac Pro (2019) under Mac OS X Catalina (ver. 10.15.6). The version of NumPy I'm running is 1.18.3. I've attached a copy of the Fortran source code to this note (see rkfn78.for). The command I'm using to wrap this code is f2py3 -c rkfn78.for --fcompiler=gfortran --f77flags="-c -O -Wall" -m rkfn78 The output I get is captured in the file rkfn78_build_output.txt. I don't understand the cause behind the error message I get, so any advice would be welcomed. Sam Dupree.

NumPy community town hall on Oct 14th

Hi all, Tomorrow there will be no regular community meeting. Instead, we will be holding a town hall meeting at 1pm PDT (20:00 UTC), focused on community building, our diversity, equity & inclusion (DEI) efforts, ways for new contributors to plug in, and related topics. For details see https://numpy.discourse.group/t/community-town-hall-details/24 A few comments and requests: 1. We promised to hold this town hall after the controversy on Twitter following the criticism of the lack of diversity in the NumPy paper author list. The town hall was announced on Twitter too ( https://twitter.com/numpy_team/status/1315742564859949059) and we also invited a number of organizations focused on DEI issues in STEM and open source, like PyLadies. 2. The event is focused on outreach, not on project-internal discussion. 3. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend. Please do keep in mind that we're focused on a sensitive topic here - the focus is on our community building, mentorship, DEI, etc. efforts, so please only weigh in on those as a member/representative of the NumPy project if you're (a) familiar with our efforts and recent history in this area, and (b) comfortable commenting on this topic in public. 4. This Discourse is new. We set it up because we needed a friendly forum with much better moderation tools than either the mailing list or Twitter provides. Hi, My environment is Ubuntu 20.04 and python 3.8.3 managed by pyenv. I try to run the script <https://notebook.rcc.uchicago.edu/files/acs.chemmater.9b05047/Data/bulk/dft…>, but it will keep running and never end. NEP 42 and physical unit DType

NEP 42 mentions physical units as a possible use case for the new DType. Having worked on `unyt`, which is an ndarray subclass, and other unit system implementations based on the dispatch mechanism, I am quite familiar with the challenges. One challenge is integration with Matplotlib that has a unit conversion interface. This interface is invoked by a registry mapping from unit array type, such as `unyt_array`, and its conversion class. A custom DType will still result in an ndarray type - correct? If so, Matplotlib will attempt to perform its internal calculations eventually leading to an invalid operation when adding a physical quantity to a pure number. This happens today with `unyt_array` and some of the plotting functions that allow the subclass to leak through into the internals. Has this been discussed? I can imagine other libraries will have the same challenge.

Hi All, Motivated by the replacement of compatibility macros in NumPy core, see issue <https://github.com/numpy/numpy/issues/17097>, I was wondering if we should extend that to swig.i. That would make swig incompatible with Python2.7, but one can't use recent numpy with Python 2.7 either. Chuck
