Well, the impact of what Python3 did to everyone's string handling code caused so much work that it's close to impossible to top that within numpy I'd say:)

The basic mechanics of indexing are just too fundamental and touch on too many things to make this sort of change feasible. It would be better to have a new language, or in this case anew project.
