It's a minor point, but setting up and maintaining our own git repository will require extra work without gaining anything useful. Github has a number of very useful features and is gaining new functionality all the time. It also greatly simplifies account management, which is a royal pain with our current system. Obviously this is a separate issue from whether we move to git or not, but I just wanted to address it quickly.
