
Coming back to earth on the original discussion, is there really no way to moderate new users on the mailing list platform used by this list (mailman?)? On the SymPy list, which uses Google Groups, we moderate all new users, so that first time posts have to be moderated but after that people can post directly. We have had very minimal spam even in the queue (to be fair, I'm sure Google applies its own filtering), and only one in recent memory that got through, due to the moderators not reading the message contents carefully enough.
