did anyone create numpy.slack.com?

Hi all, I was trying to create a Slack workspace named numpy, but it turns out that numpy.slack.com already exists. Does anyone have access to it or knows who is administering it? Thanks, Ralf

A lot of users try to grab all possible IDs available. A friend of mine had reserved gmail-IDs of almost all celebrities, as if they will register on Gmail. :-) I guess, it is one of those. Try using some combination - 'numpy-xxxx'. Regards. -- Pankaj Planet Earth. "" You will be recognized and honored as a community leader.

FWIW we use Zulip for scikit-image and we are very happy with it. See https://skimage.zulipchat.com <https://skimage.zulipchat.com/> . Advantages over Slack: - free for FOSS, including unlimited archives (https://zulipchat.com/for/open-source/ <https://zulipchat.com/for/open-source/>) - login with GitHub - Zulipchat is itself FOSS (I have successfully set up my own instance before) - (upcoming) public archive (read without login) Juan.

There's a NumPy Gitter as well, but most core devs are not using it. Note that this is mostly meant for dev discussions and (the reason I'm creating it) mentoring new people 1:1 or in a small group. All actual new volunteers said in the community call that they expected Slack, and people like Sebastian, Stefan and myself are on Slack very regularly as well. This is related to https://github.com/numpy/numpy/pull/14027. Public channels (mailing list, GitHub) are our preferred communication mechanism; this and a new numpy-team@googlegroups.com are additions for private communications to lower the bar to start contributing. It turns out not everyone is comfortable with their first question or code being seen by 1000+ people. tl;dr the usual worries you post below aren't very relevant in this case, and anything but Slack is pretty much a non-starter. Cheers, Ralf
