As part of PyCon North America 2019, I'm co-leading a one-night arts festival - "The Art of Python", through the Hatchery program https://us.pycon.org/2019/hatchery/artofpython/ - and hope members of our community will consider proposing art to share!
We're seeking many types of narrative, performance, and visual art about the experience of programming and making technology -- both Python specifically and programming more generally.
I hope we can showcase several different artists, including people who have to gather the courage to share their work publicly for the first time, and whose art explores varied experiences -- including ones that we often don't discuss factually in public, because (for example) they're embarrassing or because we have non-disclosure agreements. And I hope we get a range of tones -- humor, awe, melancholy, anger, joy, and so on.
I regret to say that there is no pay involved.
The festival will be Friday, May 3rd. The deadline for submissions is February 28th.
There's a related effort by !!Con (May 11-12, NYC) to also encourage "not-talks" as submissions -- their CfP is open till March 3rd http://bangbangcon.com/give-a-talk.html , and they offer speaker travel funding and a USD $256 honorarium! So you can propose the same "not-talk" to "The Art of Python" and to !!Con.
Please feel free to reply to me off-list if you have questions about art you'd like to share!
Thanks,

Hello all!
Last year we managed to deliver the first edition of the PyLondinium
conference. After having more than 200 tickets sold, 60 talk proposals,
28 talks including 4 keynotes, 3 workshops, and all the good feedback
from the attendees, we knew we had to do it again next year..
And here we are! We have almost everything ready now, and we want to
share all the information with you:
- Dates: 14th to 16th of June, 2019
- Venue: Bloomberg's European HQ, London, EC4N 4TQ
- CFP[1] is now open, and closes at midnight of April 4th.
- Tickets[2] are already on sale. Affordable tickets, and different
types to make this conference for everyone.
- We have confirmed some keynotes, you can see this and more information
in our website[3].
- You can keep up to date by subscribing to our mailing list[4] and/or
following us on twitter[5].
If you missed it last year, and want to know what to expect on this
edition, you can see all the talks in our YouTube channel[6]
And that's all, best regards,
Pedro

Just posted this to events. Thought it'd be fun to share with the
community.
Type of Event: Charitable event benefitting CSforALL. Ruthe Farmer event
chair continues the tech inclusion work she started as a senior policy
advisor for tech inclusion for Obama as Chief Evangelist of CSforALL.
This event started in a conversation between Larry Hastings and PuPPy and
PyCascades founder Don Sheu. At PuPPy's fourth anniversary event, for
Guido's BDFL retirement, Don proposed to Larry that PuPPy leads a
crowdfunding campaign to send Guido and his family on a Cunard cruise that
visits over 50 ports of call, twice. Larry responded, Guido would hate
that. He hates traveling. Guido likes discussing the intricacies of
computing with others who care as much as he does.
Don replied, he can do that. The result is that on April 2nd, James
Gosling, Anders Hejlsberg, Larry Wall, and Guido will delve deep into
language design and computing. Carol Willing will moderate the discussion.
No broadcast of the livestream. There are requests out to potential donors
to support a broadcast of the livestream. Otherwise being on premises is
the only way to watch this historic discussion.

One of the accepted PyCon US Hatchery program this year is the "mentored
sprint for diverse beginners" program, where the goal is to pair up
experienced open source maintainers/contributors with diverse group of new
contributors.
More details: https://us.pycon.org/2019/hatchery/mentoredsprints/
I’m helping to organize this sprint, along with Tania Allard, Nina
Zakharenko, and and Nikoleta Glynatsi.
If you are *new to open source, want to get started contributing*, please
sign up using this form before March 14:
https://goo.gl/forms/d3Blf8wgxWVoSIgO2 It will be helpful for us to know

the mentor you need.
If you *maintain/own an open source project*, or if you *have experience
contributing* to an open source project and can help others get started, we
would appreciate for you to sign up as a mentor. It doesn't have to be a
Python project, it doesn't have to be big.

Currently the following projects have signed up. Thank you!!!

Hello all,
Shauna Gordon-McKeon and I are organizing a "Maintainers Summit" event at
PyCon this year. The goal is to create a community of practice to help
support Python project maintainers socially, technologically, and
logistically.
I thought some of you might interested in attending. The event is going to
be structured through a series of lightning talks and breakout sessions
during PyCon.
Please consider submitting a lightning talk through our CFP, which closes
on March 15th or help us by spreading the word with your various networks
and on social media, to help us raise visibility - we want to make sure
everyone hears that this event is happening.
